A nice discovery. Less of the overripe banana taste than other bottles from the Cockspur brand, but a very pleasant spicy side.

This Bajan rum from WIRD is composed of a blend aged in bourbon casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The nose is round, fruity, spicy, thin and a little woody with scents of clove, cinnamon, orange peel and vanilla. At the palate and during the rather short finish the scents coming back as flavors together with some oak and chocolate. Overall a much too thin and bland rum in my opinion.

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: On the nose, it has slightly fruity barrel notes with oak and light spicy aromas. On the palate, the rum is pleasant and quite full-bodied. Mildly, it shows some sweetness, dried fruit, caramel, but also vanilla and oak. Wood lingers and some bitterness comes through. The finish has a bit of sharpness but is pleasant, and the barrel notes definitely remain. All in all, a solid rum. And here is the only downside. Compared to other rums in this price range, it lacks that certain something extra. If you have other Barbados rums in this price range (e.g., Mount Gay or Doorly's 12), you actually don't need the Cockspur. Somehow, it's a bit too tame and quickly forgotten when you turn to other rums again. If you don't have a Barbados yet or are looking for an unsweetened rum, you can definitely invest your money here. Solid mid-range.
