The surprise here is how little the whisky cask actually shows up — the unpeated Vercors barrel stays in the background and lets the New Grove character breathe. Expect orange, dried fruit and cherry, light oak tannin and a faint smoke. Most tasters call it balanced and dry rather than whisky-forward. A nice New Grove. For about 29€, an absolute price-performance hit. The 6% more compared to the New Grove 10 years at 40% noticeably provides more flavor. The finish is super subtle, but the whisky is not so dominant...

#4953 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light, fresh, light wood, dried fruit, light close, faint caramel, faint smoke, faint melon. Palate Oily, fresh, light, light bitter, light herbal, spice, sweet, spicy, light caramel, dried fruit, light smoke. Finish Medium long, light wood, light smoke, raisin, light orange, spice, medium dry, light herbal.

A rum tasted at the Rhum Fest in 2024. The nose is not too marked by the whisky. The palate is a bit sharp, a slight smokiness and whisky aromas develop and somewhat hide the other aromas. The finish is smoky and still on the whisky. I understand that rum producers try to appeal to whisky lovers, but personally I often find the whisky finish very disappointing. And I haven't even tasted the peated version.

A somewhat oaky New Grove. French/US (virgin) oak combination of flavours. Some PX/Red Wine/Dried fruits and lots of cherry. Not so very whisky-y but the oak might have something to do with that. Not the best N.G. but very decent still. Retry: still very decent stuff.

From 10 years, it becomes interesting at New Grove, below that, meh meh. Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and somewhat heavy palate, sorry :) Here we have mainly cereals A rum that leans more towards whisky anyway, but especially very dry Finish: short and dry Too straightforward, too "simple" for me.

Grays offers a tamer version of whisky barrel finishes with a non-peated whisky that doesn't overpower, and the Paris is actually quite successful. The nose is rather soft and pleasant, the whisky doesn't dominate and lets the different aromas express themselves: orange, raisins, mild spices (vanilla), oak, and sweet softness effectively accompany the barrel finish for a nice balance. The palate follows the same line, even more balanced and flavorful once again. Red fruits, orange, sherry influence, spices, smokiness, and caramel show a good expression of the rum against the whisky, here much more balanced than the Rozelieures version. The profile is smooth, quite gentle yet with character. The alcohol is rather well integrated. The finish is long, dry, and tannic. The fruits go with the oak and the spicy and roasted notes to complete a profile with more substance and delicacy. This version with a Vercors whisky finish is more discreet and better preserves the aromas than the other two, demonstrating that whisky doesn't always take over.

The nose is immediately recognizable, we are definitely at New Grove, with that typical fruity side. A slightly smoky side gives depth. On the palate, however, it collapses. You feel a lot of dilution, which really spoils everything. Oh, how I would have loved to have this as cask strength, or much less diluted. The smoky side due to the whisky is more found at the end of the palate and in the finish. A big regret, because I love New Grove.

The cherry and chocolate, of the three Savoir Faire's I like the most, is the sweetest and least earthy of the nixh.
