New Grove Savoir-Faire Distillerie du Vercors (Whisky cask finish) 2013

The surprise here is how little the whisky cask actually shows up — the unpeated Vercors barrel stays in the background and lets the New Grove character breathe. Expect orange, dried fruit and cherry, light oak tannin and a faint smoke. Most tasters call it balanced and dry rather than whisky-forward. One notes the palate feels a touch diluted at 46%, softening the middle.

Dry, oaky whisky-finished rum, fruit and smoke Well-liked as a restrained whisky finish where the cask doesn't take over. Dry, oaky, gently smoky and fruity. A couple find it a little thin and simple at strength.

#4953 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light, fresh, light wood, dried fruit, light close, faint caramel, faint smoke, faint melon. Palate Oily, fresh, light, light bitter, light herbal, spice, sweet, spicy, light caramel, dried fruit, light smoke. Finish Medium long, light wood, light smoke, raisin, light orange, spice, medium dry, light herbal.

Un gros regret, car j adore new grove.

Ein schöner New Grove.

A somewhat oaky New Grove. French/US (virgin) oak combination of flavours. Some PX/Red Wine/Dried fruits and lots of cherry. Not so very whisky-y but the oak might have something to do with that. Not the best N.G. but very decent still. Retry: still very decent stuff.

The cherry and chocolate, of the three Savoir Faire's I like the most, is the sweetest and least earthy of the nixh.

Mauritius is the rum island of the Indian Ocean, a sugarcane country that makes it all: smooth aged molasses rum, fresh-juice agricole, and the spiced and fruit-steeped rhum arrange that locals drink. That range across three rum styles makes it one of the most varied origins in rum, still flying under the radar of most drinkers.
