Extremely fruity pineapple note - pure summer! Just the right level of power on the palate paired with typical Grand Arôme aromas. Great fun on its own and also makes really tasty daiqiris. An absolute recommendation in the white rum segment!

Dégustation des Savanna high ester. Un nez de bubble gum avec des fruits frais, ananas et banane. Mais aussi de l’olive et du végétal (herbes sèches). L’attaque est vive mais l’alcool laisse aussitôt la place aux esters. Un petit côté amer végétal, goudron et médicamenteux vient un peu perturber la bouche. Ensuite ce sont pourtant les fruits qui ont le dernier mot. La finale n’est pas très longue mais avec de beaux fruits et une acidité soutenue. Un rhum à boire aussi pur mais qui doit être surtout intéressant en cocktail.

Intense on the nose with lots of esters. Basket of fresh tropical fruits. Some sweetness and (after quite some time in the glas) a hint of cinnamon. Very enjoyable. Very tasty on the palate. Well balanced with meticulously integrated alcohol and a creamy texture makes this a very solid unaged choice for sipping.

27.09.2024 Retasting with Savanna and still a good rum. ------------------- #4199 Wow, this one is really good especially when looking at the price tag. The esters are there and I'd say this is a light HERR 😊 Fruity and fresh and the palate is nice and warm/spicy with a long warm finish. The empty glass has a nice smoky note to it.

I love this white Grand aroma from Savanna. Freshness, ester, floral and vegetal before the fruit, combawa, brine, green olive, explosion of overripe aromas. A very good white for tasting and a nice representative of its terroir. Works neat, in a Mai Thai or in a daiquiri.

Olive brine tempered by very ripe fruit and esters. As is so often the case with Savanna, you'll either love it or hate it. As far as I'm concerned, this Savanna is still very nice!

On its own, it's too smoky/umami and salty after olive brine for me. In the daiquiri it's quite exciting with this pineapple olive note, but overall it's still not quite my cup of tea... It has something of a diluted HERR.

Post-tasting of the Masterclass Savanna High Ester. This is what a highlight ester should taste like. Lots of ester on the nose, also very fruity and a little olive. Also fruity on the palate, but also fresh and herbal. Thumbs up for this.

Savanna Masterclass High Ester: The Lontan is an excellent mixer with a very balanced fruit/plant aroma diversity, the alcohol is very well integrated. And considering the price, a clear recommendation.

I score rums on their own for the most part, from tasting them as sippers, leaning heavily to personal preference but trying to also keep some perspective to objective quality. So that leaves me in conflict when I score a rum like this Savanna. This rum is all olives, brine, esters and smoke. Yes, there are other notes to be found but these are so dominant that it’s almost silly to talk of much else. Frankly, those notes are interesting, not awful but not something I would want to sit back and sip. Still, this is well crafted and also so bold and forceful that it could be a mixologist/bartender dream. So I have ultimately settled on a 7 - as a mixer or as an objective score it could be higher, and as a personal preference for sipping it could be lower.

Savannah High Ester Masterclass. I really like the Lontan57 profile. Not as good as the LMDW Birthday Edition but definitely has the same basic feel. Definitely a cool rum for the price.

The first rum I tasted from Réunion (apart from Charette). Someone brought me this bottle from there. It was quite a shock. At the moment I thought: I will never be able to drink this! Its exuberance was disturbing: the alcohol, the esters, the olive, the smoky. Plus I was just starting out in rum. Eventually I learned to appreciate it, to finally really love it. In ti punch passion fruit it's wonderful.

Cool stuff. Olives and brine on the nose. Reminds me of lemon chicken and puff pastry. Slightly Hampden-like bouquet. Neat, especially with a little water, it becomes much more agreeable. Great value for money. Long finish.

Unique and crazy nose of overripe strawberry, pineapple and banana, meat and lots of vegetal vegetables (olive). Definitely fermented, which makes it special. In the mouth and finish extremely pineapple, spicy (salty) and again vegetal. As a white rum for pure enjoyment questionable, if then for demonstration that olive flavor is also possible in rum :-)

RumX Savanna Masterclass 27.09.2024: Beautiful nose, fruity-vegetal with a banana sweetness. Pleasantly soft in the mouth with a great pineapple sweetness that coats the whole mouth. Light but not too intense smoky notes and then a great long finish.

Undoubtedly a good mixer and for this purpose it will end up on the shopping list in the future. Great never-ending pineapple that is consistently present. You could almost think this is a blend so distinct is the taste. Definitely recommended for the home bar.

A rum with a big base aroma but well balanced in flavors. The nose starts on very ripe, even fermented fruits, on banana and pineapple. Olive and esters (notably polish) complete the profile. There is a slight smoky aspect that accentuates the intense side of the rum on the nose. The attack on the palate is very fruity, notably on red fruits (strawberry) and tropical fruits (pineapple, mango). The rum becomes creamier and thicker in the mouth gaining some fatness. The esters, vegetal notes and olive brine become more present at the end of the mouth. The spicy and smoky notes add extra character to the palate. The aromas are homogeneous, none overpowering the other. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of correct length on very ripe pineapple, olive brine and spicy notes. It is warm and maintains good aromatic intensity on the palate. A well brought profile but should be even better in cocktails.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy ones like Grand Arôme or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few drops of liquid for a long time.

The Lontan 57.5 not only comes across very well in a daiquiri, I also enjoy it on its own. Although the aromas of pineapple and overripe berries are much milder than in the HERR, they are complemented by an olive note that I find very appealing and fitting.

Excellent tasting evening at Bar 1802 in Paris, great advice and great discussions! Here's a savanna full of fruit, a soft, sweet molasses, and intriguing notes uncommon in whites. On the finish, a hint of apricot.

Glue, varnish, polish, and who knows what other petrol-based paint removers 😂 The scent is already hardcore. On the palate then rather positive, fruitier, even slightly sweet, vegetal. Very good as a mixer. Neat not necessary, but goes down very well. Alcohol super integrated.

First time trying Reunion island rhum at Bar Rumhead at Tokyo. Edit: batch 7 On the nose: very high ester, pineapple being the main flavour. On the taste: Pineapple upfront and being main flavour tha i got from this rhum. After few sips i got hints on odd flavour of ketchup. Very pleasant to sip in overall. I think i may have to buy this bottle. For sipping and maybe to try it in Daquiri

Wow! I knew to expect something "weird" but this really delivers. A lot is going on. Fermentation, soap, ammonia, cane sugar, gamey meat, and umami. It's surprising. It's wild! The clairin "le rocher" is a saint compared to this. I'll rate it but I don't know how many times I'll have to taste it to form a lasting opinion!

A real olive bomb on the nose. 💣 On the palate, the olive is also dominant, but a good amount of pineapple comes in. Both are clearly present and the other notes harmoniously complement the whole. There is also a slight meaty note, but within reasonable limits. Also a real knockout in terms of price!

I'm a bit torn on this rum. On one hand, I love this unique complexity of meaty notes that almost remind me of barbecue, fruit esters of sweet pineapple and overripe strawberries, fresh mint, mineral aromas of olive and a bit of iodine... the complexity is exceptional. On the other hand, it's on the edge of what I consider harmonious enjoyment. Slight deductions in the B-grade due to my subjective preferences, but objectively a flavor spectacle you don't often get in a glass.

An unaged rum, a truly wonderful Grand Arôme that brings a lot with it at a sensational price-performance ratio! Citrusy notes on the nose that give way to grassy, vegetal aromas which transition into an awesome mix of brine and green olive. On the tongue comes funky ester with fermented pineapple, tropical fruits and a spicy note at the end, must be a blast in daiquiris!

Huge rotten pineapple vibe here. Some apricot and banana. Very potent esters. Pours water white. In the mouth, everything on the initial aroma really takes off into the stratosphere. Fermented pineapple on a whole new level. You'd only need to add coconut to this to make it a pina colada. Maybe a hint of olive. There's a hint of nail polish on the end too. Medium finish. It's intense. Not sure I'd drink it again straight but would be fun as a mixer. Sample from bottle split.

Olive on the nose and in the mouth! Me, who doesn't like it in general, I don't mind it here! The fruity blend has a lot to do with it: very present at the start, it quickly dissipates and blends into the fruity mix.

I totally missed the review from this cocktail king again.😍😊 Nice, the narrow glass spread wonderful aromas. Sweet and fruity with berries, overripe, fresh and floral, with a slight olive note. Even though it's great for cocktails, you can definitely treat yourself to a neat sip sometimes. Sweet sugarcane hits the palate first, then the fruity berries follow, again fresh and floral. Towards the finish, olive, brine, and spice come in. A great rum at a good price, maybe it doesn't quite reach the master, but it's not far off.👍🏻

Hell yea, this is some lovely Grand Arôme from Savanna! Typical brine-ish nose with olives, fermented fruits, and of course quite medicinal and chemical notes too. But oh boy, the taste! Full, intense, fruity (sweet tropical fruits and citrus). It even felt like it coats my tongue with a thin layer of "oilyness". Its not oily in a direct sense, but this is the best way I can describe it.

A Savanna that certainly makes a good figure in a mixer. Let's see how it tastes neat. No need to talk about the color with this bottling. The nose for me is primarily green olive in brine. Green and savory. Only after that do I perceive fruit aromas. ABV very well hidden. On the palate again the olive, plus pineapple, slightly salty and a very light sugarcane sweetness. The medium-long finish follows the palate aromas with a nice light spiciness added. I do like these unaged aromatic water-clear representatives and am happy when they work well neat or as a mixer. Strong value for money.

For a white rum: quite incredible. Beautiful nose, rich in aromas, tapenade, glue, traces of fruit. On the palate, round, silky, despite its 57.5 degrees, smoky, aniseed flavor. Long finish. Recommended

19.11.2025 Casa Havana Praha for about 10 minutes we couldn't tell what we smelled in the aroma most probably blue cheeses and a bit too ripe bananas flowing, it's not identifiable at all, it's absolutely macabre the taste is similar to the smell brutal extreme, like when they burn blue cheese and put green olives in it, it's a total mess!!! The taste twists the whole body and then stays in the mouth for a long time

This is a deep and complex rum that really shines, a lot of honey sweet aroma with a hint of smokyness. This is the most unusual lontan out of the flight. It lingers endlessly but in the end I like batch 4 just a bit better. Nice funk
