Good bones, bottled too soon — that's the recurring verdict here. The profile is the dark Guyana one people chase: milk chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee and mokka, with exotic fruit and a bit of fermented apple on the nose. But at nearly 65% the alcohol stays sharp on the tongue, and several tasters wish it had spent more years in the cask. One member calls it "a real chocolate bomb."

31.01.2026 Retasting at the Warehouse Tasting at Nobilis. ------------ This is part of a series of 3 rums and I like when bottlers try something new or experiment. This particular rum was young and fresh in both bouquet and on the palate, but it still managed to move things around. Fruity and intense without being put of balance.

A rum in the style of La Bonne Intention, Guyana's former distillery. The nose opens with notes of exotic fruit and citrus, before giving way to the darker profile characteristic of the region. On the palate, the attack is aggressive, with a hint of alcohol, but the darker side returns and envelops the palate with notes of coffee and spices, the fruit here being more subtle. The finish is long, bitter and brutal, with spices, cocoa, tea and dried fruit. A rather hard, harsh and somewhat unbalanced rum. Aeration is necessary to fully appreciate this beverage, but a few more years would have really allowed this rum to gain depth.

My first LBI. I taste the potential of the profile. I like it very much. But probably bottled a few years too early. Let’s hope we see more of it in the future. This bottling is not quite round, not quite finished and the alcohol is too present on the tongue.

Eigentlich hatte ich mehr erwartet, finde ihn sogar schlechter als der Durschnitt, obwohl dieser eigentlich mein Profil ist mit Schokolade, Kakao, Kaffee und Mokka. Wahrscheinlich weil der Alkohol im Abgang doch sehr brennt.

Now the last of the three Nobilis 21... La Bonne Nose: young, fresh, biting. Spicy-woody and fruity. Apple and kiwi in the foreground, behind that woody and caramel sweetness, with, like the other two, yeast and brioche. Here also some vanilla and cocoa powder. Overall too young, too unripe. 7.6 Palate: unfortunately very unfinished, sharp-edged, bitter. Woody-spicy, peppery and slightly burnt. Some cardamom is there. Creamy brioche texture. 7.2 Like the other two, bottled way too early. The three rums don't seem finished yet. But all definitely have potential.

The young LBIs unfortunately fall off a bit overall for me in direct comparison to the young continental Demeraras. In addition to the fruity and light sweet notes, I perceive a somewhat confusing herbaceous-medicinal note here, which at first reminds me somewhat of the glue so often found in tropically aged Demeraras, but comes across somewhat differently - unfortunately in a negative sense. I am disturbed by this aroma, which unfortunately remains discernible on the palate, and consequently clouds my enjoyment of this release.

Un rhum très (trop ?) jeune qui a quand même quelques jolies qualités. Le nez nous accueille sur de la pomme fermentée, pas mal de café et de chocolat au lait. Ce côté pomme n'est pas mon truc. L'alcool est assez bien intégré vu l'ABV, et la bouche suit le nez avec cette pomme qui nous approche d'un calvados. Le tout est très frais, avec du réglisse mentholé et aussi du cacao et du thé. La finale est assez umami et réconfortante. Pas un coup de coeur mais une curiosité.

Nose mainly sweet with coffe and cocoa notes, but also old cardboard. Drink side it is too thin, still sweet and a bit roasted, but very little comes out apart from alcohol, with a bad integration
