A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024. An extremely rich, almost balsamic nose, with prunes, ripe fruit, stewed fruit, vegetal notes and even a refreshing menthol. The attack on the palate is rather gentle, then the aromas become more powerful. As on the nose, an incredible balance between dark aromas and menthol. The finish is super-long and elegant, with well-integrated wood and alcohol. A great rum, with finesse and balance. I loved it and even bought a bottle.

GRF post-tasting (I had the very last sample bottled at the Precious Liquors stand): Very pleasantly restrained on the nose in terms of alcohol vapors, but associations of yellow and green fruits. Delicately oily on the palate (if there is such a thing), somehow vegetal, but certainly not grassy, typical bright, peppery Clarendon flavor, I would say. Above all, I like this spreading bitter note. For me, an EMB at the highest level.

Tasted first at the GRF2024. Update: WoW 😎😏😍 This is one of the best Clarendon I‘ve ever tasted! A delicious nose, with notes of ester, glue, various trop fruits, licorice and oak. In mouth the ester and glue notes moved in the background, what remains is a nice sharpness. The finish is quite long and delicious .

Great tropical Clarendon with typical markers and tropical notes. Intense and complex with multiple layers of taste & nose. Deserves a separate tatsting with some more time, but definitely great stuff! //retaste: wow, really freat and intense! Superb tropical Clarendon, raised the score a bit

On the nose, the lower ABV seems to put the spotlight more on the fruity notes versus herbs. Very nice. This is in line with the last cross tasting, where the V&M also performed very well on the nose on the back of some dilution (presumably, of course ;) ). And same story on the palate… while the dilution seems to benefit the nose very much, on the palate (at least side-by-side) the 95 vintages loses disproportionately. Less thickness and intensity. While more approachable, the dilution does not round out the edges completely but undermines complexity. The right approach (dilution vs. cask strength) is then a matter of personal preference.

#5423 23.06.2025 Relaxing with a few samples at home. Nose Intense, light wood, ester, fruity, overripe, light apple, light cherry, faint glue, spice. Palate Oily, naturally sweet, light wood, ester, intense, warm, fruity, overripe, faint cherry, spice, light melon, faint citrus, light glue. Finish Long and warm, ester, wood, light roasted, light glue, tannins, light bitter, faint leather. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, light raisin, light pineapple, light glue, faint leather. Fair rating. So far I haven't really warmed to Clarendon, but here everything just fits for me. Super inviting nose with tropical fruits and spices. The palate is beautifully intense with lots of fruit, pepper and a slight bitterness.

Tasted at The Auld Alliance July 26. Very complex nose. Solvents, pineapple, anise and licorice, grapefruit, mango, ripe banana, unripe banana. Awesome!! Very warm in the mouth. Melted licorice, tea Long, great finish. Extremely complex 1995 EMB with lots of licorice and little banana bread. I feel like I’m in the tropics.

The nose hasn't blown me away yet. Wood, fruit, light roasted notes... sometimes mint or menthol resonates slightly. The palate is full of wood and fruit, with an indefinable spice. Very good clarendon

Excellent!!! Nose: Apples, herbal, mint, eucalyptus, cardamon, esters, glue, spices, sandal wood, oranges. Amazing! Taste: sour, dry. Mango, mint, roots, apples, eucalyptus, esters, mace, spices, sandal wood, bergamot, herbals, oranges. Aftertaste: looong, lot of fruits, herbals, mint & citrus Amazing rum !

Tasted at UK RumFest 2024. Really funky rum. Lots of fruity, ester flavours. The team on the Precious Liquors stall were great and very generous. Also tried their Black Cat and White Cat rums from Guyana, with the Black Cat being my favourite.

Round, soft, balanced, that's how I would describe it. On the nose still a bit closed, but here currant, pineapple, mint, glue are the dominant markers. On the palate, spices like allspice and turmeric are added. Also further mint, menthol, wood and red fruits. The finish is nicely long, woody, fresh, fruity, beautiful deep dark notes from the cask. The tannins did a great job, exquisite Clarendon.

Not my preferred style, herbal and menthol, and green (tho i do love a tropical fruit bomb menthol TDL). Extremely tannic and dry. Need to come back to this at the end of a big tasting and it could be a 9+ … but certainly not one for a weeknight. Will update review if opinion changes. Have a full bottle that needs opening.

This is fantastic! Mango and eucalyptus, canned pineapple, licorice and Worcestershire sauce, sherry notes.... Beautifully balanced and with a long aftertaste. I'm very happy to have a whole bottle like this.

Let me lead with this is the best Clarendon I have tasted. Really really top notch. Great nose, caramel, tropical fruits, and incredibly balanced and inviting. Exciting to taste. The mouth has depth, with some mint, mango, and a pungent woody quality. The finish is oh so long, with mango and banana offset by a dry oaky note. It is top notch and I fully expect at next tasting to get even better!
