Pineapple and fresh-cut grass up front, then it darkens toward burnt sugar and a peppery, almost meaty finish. Several tasters get creaminess — one calls it homemade marshmallow — with only a whisper of Fiji's industrial funk. It sits between an agricole and a molasses rum, delicate rather than punchy, and a couple of people wish it hit a little harder.

For a molasses rum, it starts pleasantly grassy like an agricole, although it gets “darker” after some breathing time and begins to hint at burnt sugar. Some nice peppery spice notes with hints of nutmeg and a pineapple character. Medium length greener finish.

Molasses. I did not always like the flavor, but now I do; and this one has it. A bit too much straight with the burn and all, but I have enjoyed it mixed.

this rum is farmy, fruity, creamy, and subtle with its funk. i knew to expect some industrial notes, but i did not expect it to blend so well with the other flavors. no note seems to overpower another, though a pop of pepper demanded attention on my first sip before my palate adjusted. this rum is flavorful while remaining easy to drink. the various flavors are most certainly there, but they are delicate. that being said, as someone who usually prefers a bit more punch from the taste, i do crave a little more. overall, the holmes cay fiji blend was quite enjoyable, and for me, a great introduction into fijian rum.

Initial smell of caramel and creme brulee. Golden pour. A little wood in the mouth. First Fiji rum so this is a different vibe. Hits you with a second candy cord tinged body in the mouth. Some pepper on the finish, almost meaty.

This is a delicious rum, although I don’t get a ton of the Fiji industrial funk that I’ve seen others find and which I love in my favorite Fijis I’ve tried; I think I notice it most on the finish. Still a fantastic deal and will be used in rum old fashions often. The slight brininess, tropical fruit notes, with the creaminess and pepper are wonderful.

A decent sipper. At first will seen a touch harsh, but as it sits, it mellows out quite a bit. An interesting mix of light flavors and sharp sensation from the alcohol. The grassy notes are very light and only show up sometimes, but are very pleasant. I get a lot of homemade marshmallow, which is fantastic. All in all, a delicious product.
