Caroni fans chasing something off the usual script should know this: it's an atypically floral, fruity 1998, all rubber and diesel up front but with rosewater, ripe mango and sweet berries underneath. Give it 20-30 minutes in the glass and the full oily, tarry Caroni "Booom" arrives. A few found it a touch bitter and astringent on the palate, and some wanted more dirt.

And the last one for today, a really tasty Caroni, many thanks to Fuwi for that. It does offer quite a bit of the typical Caroni profile. Rubber, tar, and lacquer are clearly noticeable on the palate. Really an excellent rum.

On aeration, citrus fruits arise, fruit candies, the wood is toasted, spicy with vanilla, almonds, sweet, oily, molasses is dark with black tea, petrol hints join. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is industrial with rubber and tar, varnish, some iodine hints, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like mango, citrus fruits and berries, dairy notes, oily, sweet with roasted wood notes like caramel, salty, fruitcake, biscuits, pastry, roasted nuts, spicy with cinnamon, vanilla, molasses is floral, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco, dark with licorice. 8,9:The finish is long, dry, industrial with rubber and tar, petrol, fruity with coconut, tropical fruits and cherry, molasses is earthy, minty, dark with black tea, as the wood is toasted, oily with chocolate, coffee, pastry, nuts, burnt, smoky, spicy with warm cinnamon, vanilla. A truly wonderful Caroni, with plenty of dirt, but also tropical fruit and a pleasant sweetness. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and the finish is very long. Well done Distilia! Would love another bottle of this great drop

This Caroni can't really convince me... the nose is still carried by the typical aromas from dirty to fruity, but unfortunately I lose it on the palate... almost no trace of fruit left. Instead, there's a bitterness that's too strong for my taste... this continues in the finish unfortunately.

Since I never really had high expectations for this 98er Caroni, as my favorite is the Precious Liquors, this one really surprised me. It needs a bit in the glass, but then it can convince both on the nose and on the palate.

A quite unusual Caroni, on the nose it opens with tropical fruits, dolar notes, and it feels sweet. On the palate already the tar shows, along with the fruits and a fermented note. The finale is correct.

The nose is top-notch Caroni rubber. Fruitiness and sweetness included. On the palate, it's quite restrained and therefore very easy to sip. It's not exactly the Caroni bomb, but still a worthy representative. I do miss a bit of the dirtiness.

My first bottle of Caroni - bought at auction on Catawiki. The expectations were correspondingly high. Opened and tasted together with dear Thunderbird and at the same time tested two nosing glasses against each other. But first of all, the rum needs a lot of time in the glass to develop. Initially, the nose is barely present, but after 15-20 minutes a bouquet of floral notes develops, the strength of the Caroni slowly pushes forward and after half an hour you have the full portfolio of a great Caroni: oily notes with dirty hints of tar and rubber, floral influences and sweet berries in the undertone - perfect for a floral label! The first impression continues on the tongue, burnt rubber with tar and sweet fruits, slight barrel influences and then, for me personally, the typical Caroni boom on the back of the palate when swallowing, full of flavors and a character that made me puff out my cheeks. There will always be great and much better Caronis, but for the price of around 400€ it is really well developed and really fun! You can spend a long time with it

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

On the nose rubber and flowers right from the start, after a while tropical fruits come forth accompanied by leather and wood. The palate is mainly woody and leather, some tropical fruit and earthiness, the dirty rubbery notes are faint. The taste is quite astringent.

That is a GOOD sign for our taste. From a distance, it is more reminiscent of the fruity, floral profile of the Caroni 1991 Velier (the one with the samba dancers). After a while, wine gum, strawberry. Palate First impression: sweet, well balanced and very oily texture. Let's concentrate on the aromas now. Second impression: raspberry and strawberry jam, cedar. Also some roasted cassava and tamarind roots.

A very good Caroni that I liked especially for its perfect balance and excellent aging. Both the nose and the taste is at a very high level. Especially by its ethereal florality, it stands out a little from other Caronis I have tasted so far. No idea in which fragrance profile the Chaconia is located, but flowers are definitely a small part of the aroma spectrum.
