Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. The Ruby Port could be a bit more dominant in flavor for me, but the Jamaica cask finish brings in a nice fruity funk. Since the sweetness only comes from the Ruby Port, it’s overall quite dry. Basically a liquid Ruby Port Manhattan!

Perola breaks new ground and blends 8-year-old Panama rum with Ruby Reserve Port. Flavors of cherries, plums followed by nuts and hints of caramel. Dry and slightly strained aftertaste unfortunately drags this down a bit for me.

The third and last Bellamys today. I also find it quite okay. Definitely, you can detect port wine and cherry on the nose. On the palate, a lot of port wine cask as well, plus cherry again and dried fruits.

Not my thing after the first tasting... The nose still gives hope, pleasant fruit paired with sweet spices. In the mouth, considering the 11.2g sugar, it seems quite alcoholic to me. Otherwise, it's rather flat and just spicy.

Bellamy‘s Tawny vs. Ruby. Tawny very heavy on the Port notes on the nose. Not much else. Ruby is much better balanced with some chocolate and roasted notes of the rum coming through - at least I assume this is attributable to the rum used. On the palate: Tawny: this tastes like Port. Only the texture is not quite as thick as a Port. Can’t detect any influence of the rum tbh. Very sweet. Ruby: Much better. Less sweet and wine dominated. Feels a bit thin, but delivers a nice evolution with way more complexity than the Tawny.

Ballamy's tasting Very fruity on the nose: berries, raspberry, strawberry, grass, and young wood combine pleasantly. On the palate, a similar picture emerges. Berry notes with raspberry and strawberry standing out. The slight sweetness (9.9 g/l dosage) makes the mouthfeel mild and smooth. Medium-length finish. Notes of fir and young spruce needles appear. Compared to the rest of this set, I find it the most convincing alongside the Pear Cask.

Unfortunately fell short of expectations. On the nose, I didn't really get Port but rather a solid musty wood and spice mix. On the palate, it doesn't get any better, again very spice-heavy with poorly integrated alcohol. A very slight Port note but overshadowed by bitterness. The finish isn't nice either, just pepper and tannins. No recommendation.

Although it has sugar added i don't find it too sweet. The port finish is not very prominent imo. Still pretty easy to sip and not bad at all for what it costs.

Distinctive port, unfortunately a bit thin. I expected more sweetness and was positively surprised in that regard. Too alcoholic in the mouth. Associations with mulled wine or rooibos tea. Feels like it wants to go towards vermouth but doesn't quite dare. There could be more.

The expectations were higher, unfortunately disappointing, on the nose minimal port notes, slightly musty and alcoholic, with woody and spicy notes. On the palate not really better, very spicy and alcohol-heavy, and the finish very sharp, overall very unbalanced.

A slightly sweet, fruity smell, somewhat like cherry. Also quite a lot of cherry in the taste, a bit peppery and alcoholic. The body could handle a bit more alcoholic volume, but overall not bad.
