Twelve years in cask, yet this Canary Islands rum stays light and a touch thin. Expect caramel, honey and vanilla up front, with baking spice, oak and a bit of tobacco underneath. Several tasters call it pleasant but unexciting, and a few find it sweet with a rough, spirity edge. Comparisons to Madeira-style rum come up more than once.

A very nice Spanish rum from a destillery making rum since 1884 and has been delivering to the Spanish Royal family since 1892. A ver refined rum with a nicely rounded palate. Clear taste of molasses, spices and tobacco. Very good at the price tag.

7:On the nose, we get oak spice and vanilla with lightly pungent baking spice (allspice, nutmeg and hints of cinnamon) and leather. Caramel and marzipan climb into the breezes and well as notes of banana and bits of bittersweet chocolate. 7,2:On the palate, this rum is lightly sweet with light caramel and chocolate flavours combined with leathery oak and vanilla. Baking spice (cinnamon and hints of clove) and dry fruit (raisin) add some complexity as does a taste of nougat and pungent tobacco. It is pleasant to sip with some higher citrus notes brightening the palate. 6,8:The finish is short, but it is smooth with ebbing flavours of chocolate caramel and fine oak spice..

On the nose, fruity nutty sherry notes, but also brown sugar, roasted caramel and vanilla. Sweet in the mouth, a bit smoky, with a spicy honey and sweet orange finish. This rum is not as good as its 18-year-old brother from Arehucas. Younger, rougher, thinner and less flavorful. The extra cost for the 18y is definitely worth it.

From start sweet with maggi notes. Aroma and taste. In taste sweetness is sugary with notes of caramelised honey and vanilla. Pleasant, not overwhelming. Sweetness is on first plan, on second is oak with not so pleasant maggie, and maybe spice? It has buttery taste/felling Finish is medium. Sugar stay and oak change to tannins, not bad. Overall it is not bad rum. Pleasent, but nothing exciting

Drunk neat, I unfortunately have to say that Arehucas is the worst rum I've tried so far. It is carried by a very strong alcohol taste, so it comes across very sharp/spritzy. Facets/nuances = none. I have now diluted it with cola, so it is somewhat drinkable. It definitely didn't suit my taste, so I can't recommend buying it.
