Review by cigares
A nose of sour apple, dry herbs, menthol, old varnished wood. A complete and deep nose with freshness. The first palate is a bit watery, then an old varnished wood side with stale bread. Then the slightly burnt caramel gains importance and ends up dominating. The finish is long and everything falls back into place. The wood and caramel that dominated the palate give way to other aromas. Tasted in direct comparison with the Bally 1970 and much less good.

It's not very often you can try old rums so whenever I get the chance without costing me an arm and a leg I'll give it a go. Old doesn't always mean good, but I did like this one. In the beginning it was very light on the nose but after a few minutes it started to develop. The profile has light wood and saltiness to it as well as an olorosso/oxidised note. Considering the age pretty good overall.

Great old Martinique rum. Exquisite profile with heavy fruits and noble wood. A real pleasure and liquid rum history.
