Schotman’s Barrel Selection Foursquare Barbados Rum 17 2005
Sipped neat, this 17-year Foursquare leans heavily on coconut — coconut milk, vanilla, caramel, and a welcome orange note several tasters singled out. Behind that sits light oak and, for some, a metallic, bitter-salty edge on the palate that not everyone loved. Cask strength but mostly well-integrated. Fans of the classic Barbados profile enjoy it; coconut skeptics found it thin and a touch sharp.
- Coconut and vanilla
- Nice orange note
- Well-integrated alcohol

How does Schotman’s Barrel Selection Foursquare Barbados Rum 17 2005 taste?
Aggregated from 51 community reviews.
Coconut-heavy, well-aged Foursquare sipper Most rate this a very good Foursquare — round, coconut-forward, nicely balanced. The catches: a divisive metallic note on the palate for some, and coconut fatigue if that's not your thing.

Tried at the 11th GRF and perhaps the secret highlight. Tasty Foursquare with character at a reasonable and fair price. No finish or barrel experiments, plus a nice and sympathetic team behind it, has me excited!
Review by Jakob
Very pleasantly round and sweet. Almost an easy sipper. The strong spicy notes of other Foursquares are largely absent from this release - blind I would probably have been more with Belize. But of course the profile remains typical for Foursquare. Great release.

Nice, smooth Foursquare. Has everything you expect in a pleasant drinking strength.

Oh wow, super intense tropical coconut aromas on the nose. More precisely, fine coconut milk. In addition, very light and in the background banana and orange. Slowly comes a little vanilla and the wood takes over, but very subtle and rather fragrant cherry wood. I also detect a very subtle note of marzipan. Smells good. Palate: equally fruity-spicy, with coconut and orange, but first comes a tart, dry, almost metallic and slightly bitter-sour-salty thrust, which then turns into lime zest with animal currant and some oak. Then at the back again coconut with orange and still slightly metallic. Am not a ⏹️ fan, but this one is not bad.

Tasted quickly without expectations and had one of the best FS I know in the glass.

Well rounded and wood forward FS.

An extraordinary Foursquare that is ranked very high. Very balanced and complex.

Nice daily sipper, but doesn't sweep me off my feet. This rum also does not make me a Foursquare friend, it has nothing that makes me pay attention. For my taste also too expensive.

Have now tasted this rum at the second German Rumfestival in a row. And what can I say. I just like it. Class barrel selection. Not overlaid. Successful bottling. Am glad here again a larger sample at the bottler to have grabbed. This Foursquare is fun.☺️😋

Wow, very fruity, coconut, banana, in addition pairs vanilla, caramel and chocolate. For me personally the best Barbados rum I have tasted so far.

Sample reicht hier.

Tasted at the 11th GRF. A surprise of the festival for me. Very good tum from the house of Foursquare.
Review by Agricoler
Good Foursquare. My comparison of the Nobillary. This one seems even more concentrated. What is very pleasant, however, is the orange note. This is rarely found in the nose alongside the light floral notes. A very successful bottling with perfectly integrated alcohol.

Halfway tasty old foursquare but there are the "sister barrels" isonomy and royal Cane in my opinion much more harmonious and milder. This one is just too metallic and sharp for me...
Review by Jarek
Actually quite good, but the alcohol is a little too dominant.
Review by Mentalo
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Smells great, I get a typical pleasant Foursquare profile then with coconut, vanilla, coffee, some spices. On the palate a lot of coffee, red fruit and also this bitter sour and then metallic salty note in the background that I can't really call. Overall quite fine though I prefer the ECS releases that I have tried before, also that one note on the palate was a bit disturbing.
