Chairman's Reserve Spiced Original
Sip it neat, on ice, or in cola and you get orange peel, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg over a sweet molasses base — several tasters call it "Christmas in a bottle." Built on Chairman's Reserve rum with spices infused on top, it's genuinely varied for a spiced bottle, though the orange and sweetness dominate. One reviewer even caught a bubblegum note.

How does Chairman's Reserve Spiced Original taste?
Aggregated from 106 community reviews.
Sweet, orange-and-cinnamon spiced holiday sipper Most agree it's one of the better spiced rums — balanced spice, real orange, and not cloying. The catch: it's clearly sweet and the orange can overpower, and purists find it drifts toward liqueur.

The nose hits you full force with orange peal followed closely by cinnamon, clove and grapefruit with subtle hints of caramel after as if to say "there is rum under this spice". The palate is very sweet, not clogging but very, very sweet. The spices follow after the sugar. Clove, cinnamon, cardamom and orange peal all present and all pretty powerful. The spices stay for the finish but there is a roasted nut not that takes me back to the unspiced Chairman's Reserve. Overall, I prefer the unspiced and by quite some way. Though, if you like spiced rum. This has the spice in spades.

#5613 31.08.2025 Chairman's Reserve tasting at the German Rum Fest 2025. I was kind of surprised at this one. Usually I don't like spiced rum but this one is pretty well balanced. The price tag is also pretty good and I'd like to try it in a cola one day. The wood is well balanced with spices and some orange and clove. Medium long finish that has some cinnamon and citrus to it. There is a natural sweetness to it and I think most will be able to drink it.
Review by Stefan Persson
This is one of the better spiced rum I’ve tasted. The rating is based on having it neat, but I’ve mostly used it in a spicy Negroni. The base is CR Original a blend of molasses rum from both pot and column still aged in ex-Bourbon casks for an average of 5 years. The spices is infused for the last 6 months of that period. Infused spices is among others “bois bande”, cinnamon, vanilla, allspice, clove, lemon and bitter orange and around 20gpl of sugar. The nose is fruity, spicy, round and woody with scents of orange, cinnamon, clove, caramel, melon and grapefruit. At the palate it’s sweet, spicy, fruity and round with flavors of cinnamon, orange, clove, nutmeg, cardamom and a hint of licorice. The finish is medium long, spicy, fruity and nutty.

smells of Christmas with the taste of nutmeg and cloves touch vanilla and orangey after taste which lingers smoothly away

A cheaper variation of A.H. Riise's Christmas edition rum based spirit. Very nice indeed, I like it especially in cold winter months and during whole December to prep. for Christmas and also during them. You can smell a lot of christmas spices such as clove, cinnamon etc. The taste is exactly the same but with addition to ginger which is dominant from all spices. Medium finish, sweet and tasty as a spiced rum should be. Very enjoyable spiced rum made in St. Lucia. I really love it, jt instantly teleports you to Christmas if you are tasting it outside of festive holidays.
Review by Lutz Lungershausen
The rich spice notes make it exciting and complex, but mask the rum character and push it somewhat in the direction of herbal liqueurs. Still: I like the fruity nose and the fresh, lively palate

Super intense nose, especially orange. Perfect for an Old Fashioned.

Si sente molto il mandarino e ovviamente il bouquet di spezie, ha una buona corposità ed equilibrio. Purtroppo non mi piacciono i Rum speziati, ma nella sua categoria è ben fatto
Review by Old Pirate 🏴☠️🇨🇿
For me, to much of spices in it. But, to be honest, it's made from good rum (Chairman's Reserve) and it will be more enjoyable during Christmas, because the flavouring is a like some Christmas desert (Swedish cinnamon and something else?).
Review by Smashed Cherries
This one through me off with the smell of orange instead of vanilla. The sweet and spicy flavors are unique and stand on their own. A well crafted rum.

as spiced rums go it's very good
Review by Rick Meyer
No burn with an abundance of orange, clove and cinnamon …. nose and palate. Tasty! EDIT: I strongly recommend spiced rum be in its own category for the ratings system here. The wide swings in scores don’t represent the category, instead we get those that prefer 55%+ rocket fuel rating a spiced rum in the 5-6 range. It completely skews the bias of the group.

Rum speziato, deve piacere. Qualsiasi purista storcerebbe il naso. La cannella la fa da padrona e la dolcezza è veramente molto spinta.
Review by Solidfunk
Cinnamon, caramel, vanilla. Dark golden pour. It's certainly nicer than the Cruzan or various Captain Morgan varieties, but that shouldn't really be a surprise. The spices tastes more genuine and the Rum less sugary and syrupy. Had a glass in St. Croix.

Spiced trifft es ganz genau... lecker würzige Vielfalt. Wenig süße aber passend. Eigentlich fast eher was für die kalte Jahreszeit.
Review by thomas fraboulet
Review by Zoran Moritz
It’s not bad, but for my taste the orange flavor stands out too much. Don Papa Rum is still better—smoother and more balanced.
