Dark, dry and tannic, with port-driven blackberry and prune sitting on top of Versailles' bitter, tarry Guyana backbone — think over-steeped Earl Grey, coffee grounds, leather and a chemical, almost plastic edge. Despite "White Port," expect heavy dark aromas, not bright fruit. A few tasters find the port overwhelms the finer distillery notes; others enjoy how the fruit rounds the bitterness. Polarizing.

12.02.2026 Retasting thebnast two of the El Dorado samples from Nürnberg. Still an OK rum but the price tag is a bit high in my mind. -------- Another nice interpretation by using port cask finish. The finish is there with a nice fruit addition. Very light dryness on the palate, but overall a nice profile.

Phew, this is really heavy stuff... Under White Port cask I would have expected much more light fruits and not such a blast of dark aromas like sour furry blackberry, strong tea bitterness, licorice, coffee grounds and leather and surprisingly dry with a crazy oily texture that lingers forever on the palate. Also really almost chemical, metallic (plastic) feeling as I know it more from Fiji. Overall an exciting experiment but unfortunately not my thing at all. I also agree with zabo about the scent of modeling clay, very irritating! 😆

Today tested the Last Cask series from El Dorado RX6784 RX13225 RX13396 RX5449 RX3456 and RX6785. Overall, all pretty solid bottlings but unfortunately didn’t quite meet the expectations. The pricing, in my opinion, a bit too high. Unfortunately not one of the best El Dorados.

8,7:On the nose, port wine, grapes, black berry, prunes, raisins, roasted wood, dark, nuts, coffee, caramel, molasses with black tea, some glue, slightly chemical, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, cherries and green fruits are out, dark chocolate and leather, vanilla, molasses is earthy, dark with soy sauce, balanced. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is dry, bitter with port wine notes, prunes, cherry, black berry, grapes, citrus fruits, sour, roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, pastry, spicy with allspice, the molasses is dark with black tea, hints of menthol and plastic join. 7,9:The finish is long, very dry and tannic, with strong port barrel impact, with grapes, bergamot, raisins, apple, pairing toasted wood notes like chocolate, leather, nuts, spicy allspice, molasses with black tea and chemical touch. If you know it, you recognize Versailles. Overall relatively much plastic and the taste of burnt and bitter. The finish is a bit sharp-edged and rather short. Only in the finish do I get a bit of white port.

Blackberry and plum are a delicious combo. The Double Cask Aging gives the rum a pleasant finish without losing the Guyana DNA.

Nose Dark dried fruit port wine viiiiel port wine (for me completely üverlagernd) in addition comes something in the direction of dough (no money😁) and light pepper and mint .alcohol not optimally incorporated. Also here Port Port Port .... Plum and ne yet strong bitterness. In the finish slightly dry in the mouth and bitter.All in all not really something I would buy ... good that there are samplers. PLV not worth mentioning.

Actually in of the nicer expressions of those finished DDLs imo. The finish is quite dominating, but playing nicer with the Versailles than in some other bottlings. Still very dry towards the finish, but still enjoyable.

I like port and sherry both very much and also enjoy good finishes from time to time. Still, I don't find this finish particularly successful. Although I think the nose is better than the taste here. On the palate, you get the sweetness right away and then suddenly the (normal) bitterness of Versailles. But because of the contrast, it seems stronger than it actually is. The finer Versailles components tend to get lost.

Does not reach by far the quality of Albion 2004 or Skeldon 2000 - this is mainly due to the unnecessary finish - what I often also criticize whiskies, can be well transferred to this rum. The price is a joke.

The reviews of this rum vary interestingly widely, so I was curious. The nose is dark and relatively sharp alcoholic, but already hints at burnt sugar like dark molasses. On the tongue and palate then the very dry black tea aromas, slight bitterness with notes of bergamot come up - as if an Earl Grey tea had been steeped too long. Added to this are the fruity, raisiny influences from the port cask. A little more sugary molasses would have been nice and would have made it seem rounder. Still tasty, interesting through the port wine aromas - next time take the tea bag out earlier Thanks to Zabo for sharing the sample!
