Mount Gay Master Blender Collection The Madeira Cask Expression 2015
Most people land in the same happy place here: round, fruity and easy to drink for 55%, with the Madeira finish doing the heavy lifting. Expect raisins, dried apricot, caramel, coconut and dark chocolate over roasted oak. Several call it their best Mount Gay yet — a couple find it too sweet, and a few note the finish covers the base rum enough that it could pass for a Foursquare.

How does Mount Gay Master Blender Collection The Madeira Cask Expression 2015 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Round, fruity Madeira-finished Barbados sipper Widely loved as one of the better Mount Gays — round, warm and fruity with the alcohol tucked away. The catch: the Madeira finish dominates and a few find it too sweet.

The Madeira barrel and higher alcohol content give the rum a nice boost of complexity. Reminds by the coconut and toasty Kako associations of a very good Foursquare. Column still quite dominant, nevertheless great rum!
Review by Tim
Crazy rum, infinitely smooth. Honey, fruit, wood, wine, chocolate, and spices blend perfectly. Mild and tasty on the palate, the aromas from the nose continue throughout. Compared to the Port Cask Expression, this rum is a bit more approachable and easier to drink, but that doesn't make it better or worse. I think both are brilliant. Unfortunately, the price is set pretty high, but that's still okay for the latest releases.

Probably together with the Port cask Expression the best I have ever drunk from Mount Gay. Incredibly complex, intense and funky. Madeira influence harmonizes perfectly with the rum and makes really fun!
Review by Aussierumfan
I quite like this Mount Gay, quite round and sweet, which I guess is the Madeira influence. Its very drinkable and dissapears quickly! Honey, caramel, Vanilla, spice, dried fruits and wood in the background. Quite a lot to like for this one. You can't question the quality from Mount gay, it's just that they are all quite similar, this one stands out to me. Short to medium finish.
Review by Basti
The nose is very restrained. The Madeira cask is clearly recognizable, relatively sweet overall with caramel, dried fruit, honey, raisins and chocolate. On the palate, the alcohol is hardly noticeable at all. The Madeira cask can also be clearly tasted here. All in all, a very round and drinkable Mount Gay.

19.07.2025 Retasting at the Nordlichter Treffen. ---------- I bought this one at the German Rum Fest just before it closed down and enjoying it right now for a second tasting. A ver nice and balanced rum. Fruity with spice and light wood. I like the overall balance and natural sweetness. Overall a very well rounded rum with a very good price tag in my mind. I do have all the previous cask expressions and i think they line up pretty well to each other.

8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is a bit dull with roasted wood notes like nuts-walnut, spicy vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and leather, there are some solvents, raisins. On aeration, we see different picture, as madeira finish completely changes dullness into a very attractive rum, it opens up with red wine notes, dried apricots, prunes, currants and peaches, as a molasses is vegetal with tobacco, there are some roasted nuts. 9:On the palate, the attack is delicious, round and balanced, sweet from madeira finish with dried and tropical fruits like raisins, currants, apricots and coconut&banana. The wood is roasted, oily with caramel, nuts, dark chocolate and spicy vanilla. The molasses is earthy with tobacco, as the wood is later smoky, red fruits become stronger with rest, as madeira finish leaves some tannic touch. 8,9:The finish is long, sweet, pleasant with dry, roasted, a bit smoky, tannic wood notes, madeira finish contributes red fruits, the molasses is earthy, new is grapefruit, as the other palate fruits linger on...

Very warm, powerful and balanced on the nose. Dried fruit, apple, caramel. Round. Dried fruit and spice with plenty of pepper. The opposite pole is formed by citrus fruits that bring in freshness. Also remotely reminiscent of a good ron. Warm and spicy finish. My best Mount Gay to date. However, it lacks the complexity and specific profile of the premier league. But it's well crafted and certainly drinkable.

Here we have a really tasty Mount Gay. It's a rather sweet rum, but at 55% you hardly notice it. Here we have vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate on the nose and palate. On the palate there is also a hint of nut. But very good rum.

The Madeira finish is clearly dominant, but not disturbing. But the base material is no longer really recognizable. Blindly, I would certainly have guessed Foursquare. Column style is already clearly present.
Review by zabo
Wow, very very tasty, a good interplay of all the flavors. So good that you have to restrain yourself. In the finish, the finish becomes a little more dominant or clearer to the fore.

Tasting 01.07.2026 RX 13229 Mount Gay. Gift from Kevin Sørensen. Smell: Roasted cocoa, vanilla, light Barbados cask. Palate: Dark chocolate, light cask and tannins, caramel dried fruit, fine spicy finish with a touch of Madeira cask. The glass: Deep pleasant oak cask. Tasting “In the garden”

The nose is very restrained. The Madeira cask is clearly recognizable, overall relatively sweet with caramel, dried fruits, honey, raisin and chocolate. On the palate, the alcohol is hardly noticeable. Here too, the Madeira cask is clearly tasted. Overall a very round and easy-drinking Mount Gay.

Having a Sherry, Port or Madeira Fi ish to me always has the risk to mute the essence of what the Rum itself brings. I find this to be the case here, a bit - the Rum is delicate and tha cask influence very noticeable. It is also quite intense, but the alcohol is not sharp, burning or otherwise unpleasant. It is good, and a bit sweet, of course, due to the Madeira influence.

A masterpiece from Mount Gay, one of the few that for me surpass the XO. Nice complexity, has a bit of everything and the Madeira influence is not too strong/overpowering. Super smooth and pleasant

I first tried this rum at GRF 2023 in a glass with Kevin. Almost the last rum of the event and yet the one that stuck with me the most. A pure column still with 6 years of aging in Madeira casks. A light rum, with the spicy Madeira giving it the necessary edges without overpowering it. The nose takes a moment but is incredibly complex for such a light rum. Caramelized dried apples with cardamom and roasted almonds, and then there’s a bit of vegetal rum, something like roasted Pimiento de Padron. Very nice! On the palate, the Madeira is a bit more present without taking over completely. Creme Catalan with plenty of vanilla. The apple has turned into a fresher quince, the yellow fruits are more prominent. The pimientos are still there, maybe with a bit of heat, especially with fairly fresh, green tannins towards the finish. The finish might be the rum’s weak point. Although actually a nice grapefruit lingers long in the mouth. Overall a sipping rum whose rather sweet (though unsweetened) base profile gains great complexity from a subtle vegetal note.

Northern Lights Meeting 07/25: Nice nose, fruity sweet but also slightly sharp. Mild on the palate with a very spicy, flavorful finish. The finish really fits perfectly. Very easy to drink!

Crazy good, fruity-vanilla rum with excellent integrated alcohol, wonderfully soft body and medium-long, almond-like finish. Great thing!

Northern Lights Meeting July 2025
Review by Henry Davies
An interesting Mount Gay rum. Complex with a subtle but noticeable influence of the Madeira finish at a fairly young age. Nose is delicate, coconut, brown sugar and some wood. Mouth feels well balanced, with vanilla, raisin and enough barrel intensity to keep it interesting. Finish is medium and well composed with spice and vanilla as well as more barrel and wood influence. It’s a solid rum, enjoyable sipper but not quite as elevated as it could be for Barbados rum.

The best Mount Gay I've had in the glass so far. Very complex! Tropical fruits, coconut, chocolate, rusty aromas, and strong vanilla accents make this Barbos rum with Madeira cask finish a great experience! Very fine stuff!

Typical Bajan. Reminds me a lot of FC ECS releases with that touch of red fruits. Well balanced.
Review by bur2000
Really nice rum aroma on the nose, immediately reminds me of the ice cream parlor with stracciatella or Malaga. Plus a nice light fruitiness, a bit of young wood. In the mouth, I think you notice the Madeira which then finishes with vanilla, tobacco, and sweetness. Great as an uncomplicated but not boring sipper. The alcohol level is perfect too. #44:260721
