Tolle, rotgolde Farbe. In der Nase gefällt er mir sehr gut. Holzig, Kekse und Gewürze. Getrocknete Früchte und ein Hauch Blumen. Schönes Mundgefühl, voll und warm. Alkohol grad richtig. Der erste aus der Serie, von dem ich gerne eine Flasche zum Trinken hätte.

Flavour-wise I would describe this 2004 vintage as dark berry-fruity, woody, forest honey-sweet. I even got a bit of tannins and woodiness I did not feel in the previous younger vintages from this release, but it's not that I would perceive it as negative feature. I am definitely coming back to this one some time!

This one is far more complex than the younger one and especially the wood is more present. I like the herbal, minty and tobacco touch it has. Not your typical Saint James. There is a kind of medicinal note I can't put my finger on.

Großes VSGB-Vertical-live-Tasting von und mit Luca Gargano. 22.10.2022, 16:48. Wieder eine regenreiches Jahr, wenig zuckerhaltige im Zuckerrohr. daher ein selten zu findender Jahrgang. Nase: sehr ausgewogen holzig-würzig. Altes, aromatisches Sandelholz mit altem Kardamom- und Vanillepulver, dazu schwarze Johannisbeere und Blutorange. Hinten fast etwas Maggi. Kein Toffee, keine Seife. Gut. Gaumen: weich und ausgewogen holzig-würzig-nussig-minzig. Eine spürbare, jedoch eher angenehme Säure geht gleich ins aromatisch Holzige über. Hier dann Pekanuss mit Muskat, Vanille und Espresso. Eine leichte Orangen-Note bevor Gras und grüner Tee übernehmen. Platz: N: 9/10 G: 9/10

Parallel-Verkostung der Velier Saint James Reihe in der Franconian Tasting Gang. Danke Dom fürs Aufreissen 👌 Alles in Allem ist das Set für mich nicht herrausragend gut sondern eher durchschnittlich mit ein paar Ausreißern nach oben und unten. Kurzzusammenfassung nach Vintages: 2015 & 2014 waren für mich eher unangenehm. 2010 & 2012 besser aber immer noch nichts, was ich nochmal trinken wollen würde. 2008 & 2006 & 2004 waren dann deutlich besser und interessanter. 2002 dann wieder ein Totalausfall (Katzenpisse, die sich zu Multivitamintabletten weiterentwickelt und gar nicht zum Holz passt). 2000 dann wieder gut und 1998 für mich der Beste aus dem Set.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang, 2024-05-10, Saint James 25 AOC Anniversaire (danke an Dom): Der 2004er ist eine der besseren Abfüllungen der Reihe. Weniger fruchtig und süß, eher holzig, würzig, floral und wieder seifenfrei 😂

Subtle fruit on the nose, which comes across as less fresh than in other vintages. In addition, green herbs, tobacco, spices and medicinal-herbal notes. After some time in the glass, I think I detect a slight floral-spicy perfume note here as well. The nose shows a nice complexity and definitely makes you want more. On the palate, the herbs and floral notes become a bit more apparent, along with citrus freshness, light toastiness, and wood and spice. The bottom line is an appealing spectrum of flavors, which unfortunately remains too unbalanced for my taste. After tasting again, however, I round up slightly for the great nose and the basic aromatic complexity.

Franconian Tasting Gang am 10.05.2024 Zuerst ein großes Dankeschön an DomM, der dieses Set zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Mich persönlich hat es nicht abgeholt das Profil. Bis auf eine Ausnahme ist mir dieser Seifengeschmack too much. Die Reste aus den Gläsern sind aber dann dank DomM und Serge in einem spontanen und überragenden Cocktail gelandet.
