Cane Island La Cabaña Single Estate

Dark chocolate, raisins and vanilla lead here, with roasted nuts, cedar and a little orange peel underneath. The nose runs quiet, then the palate turns richer — sweet up front, oaky in the middle, with a slightly bitter edge on the finish. A few tasters find the sugar dosing masks it and reads a touch artificial; others call it an easy, well-balanced everyday pour from El Salvador.

#5182 29.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Light, round, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light orange, faint chocolate, light marzipan. Palate Round, wood, light roasted, raisin, light orange, light honey, nutts, faint marzipan, light chocolate. Finish Medium long, wood, raisin, light nutts, light orange, faint caramel. Empty glass Light marzipan, light orange, vanilla, chocolate. Price to quality is very good and I think it would do great in a chocolate cake or over ice-cream .

24 Days of Rum 2024 - Black Edition - Day 15 First impression: subtle to weakening, then intense Nose: restrained, light aromas of chocolate, wood, orange peel Palate: now the aromas come crashing in: everything that makes rum ... wood, tobacco, spices Finish: medium long, coffee is now added in the aftertaste, finally slightly bitter Overall impression: exciting, because initially weak on the nose, then strong on the palate. Still only average for me overall.

Sweet smell of vanilla as to be expected since it has been aged in american white oak barrels. Maybe some chocolate tones along with driet fruits. The palate is sweet and round. Dried fruits is there but I cannot figure out which ones specifically. Oak barrels are also very clear with its vanilla tones.

I'm a fan of Cihuatan, so it's a nice choice for me. The taste is definitely more pronounced than the aroma, start is sweet, the finish is relatively long with a slight bitterness. I'm probably too enthusiastic about the rating... but I stared recognize rum world with Cihuatan.

Typical El Salvador. Some smoke, roasted hazelnuts and almonds, dark chocolate, tobacco, some dried fruit, cedar wood and cinnamon. Solid and nice and dry, just a little bitter on the finish. Perfectly fine for the money.

The smell is rather subtle. Dried fruits, vanilla, spices and a well-drinking cask. Maybe even a hint of technicality. And oak it comes. The palate is loaded with sugar. It could have been a good rum or it was an unpalatable abomination, so someone decided to hide it under a veil of caramel. I'd hang for this one🤯😁

24 days of rum calendar mini #15, and follows the theme of plenty of sugar dosing for this calendar. Sweet caramel. A little oak, vanilla. Golden pour. Light bitter end.

Aged rum

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 16,000 Rums

Aged rum is where the spirit earns its complexity. In a tropical warehouse a barrel loses 6 to 10 percent of its contents to evaporation every year, which is why an 8-year Caribbean rum can taste deeper than a 20-year Scotch. This page gathers every rum on RumX that has spent real time in wood, with community ratings to separate the genuinely mature from the merely dark.
