Long Pond For Tara Spirits LPS 2001
People who know Long Pond land in a good place with this one, though a few wish it were less tame. Expect pineapple and overripe yellow fruit, plenty of acidity, olive and salty notes, with wood and a touch of smoke. Several tasters say 21 years sanded off the sharp edges; for some that means balanced, for others a bit "zahm" (mellow) on the funk.

Salty, woody aged Long Pond with olive Most tasters rate this a very good Long Pond — fruity esters, olive, salt and wood in balance. The recurring catch: it reads drier and tamer than the funk-hunters wanted neat.

LPS is a great brand, and this rum a nice representative. Sweetness, acidity, fruit, esters and wood are well balanced, with a long finish. The longer you let it breathe, the milder it gets. Compliments!

The LPS of Sample X (SX) I found so good that I could not resist. In direct comparison, both rums are very similar and unmistakably the same stuff.Oxidation has already sanded down the hard edges on the SX, yet the Flensburger (FL) is a bit more restrained on the nose. The fruity esters are not as present, but the vegetal-dirty side is stronger, with resin, gasoline and salt liquor. In the mouth, the fresh FL is more intense compared to the old SX. The FL is again less fruity and sour but spicier and woodier. Aromas are very similar: tea, olive, mace, hay. Fruits are riper and more yellow, yet there are still plenty of sour esters. The finish is again a real highlight in which the herbal flavors really shine again. Top!

The nose starts sweet sour and even a little floral. On the palate unusual for Long Pond, reminds me a little of Clarendon. Strong, spicy and even smoky.nice rum with a new for me Long Pond facet.

Really good LPS!! I like very well! Alcohol content could be a little higher then he would be mMn still ne corner Geiler! Am curious what he brings in May Tai .... Conditions are good .... Fruity and ne pack wood all there ...I'm just "something" missing the funk ...at least Pur .

Finally another bottling LPS from 2001. Not quite at the level of the Duchess.

Wieder mal ein sehr leckerer Long Pond.

Wirklich lecker schmeckt mir ausgezeichnet. Allerdings muss ich dazu sagen mein erster LPS. Sehr frisch und estrig was in zum perfekten Mixer macht. Gerne mehr davon Tara Spirits. Alle dri Projekte rundum gelungen.

Have the grad tested in the store and immediately taken. Tastes very good funky jamaica, and not too strong in taste.

Review by Basti

Great LPS. Reminds almost a little of Hampden. Quite dry and woody on the palate. Nice smoky note in the finish.

An old LPS, I should like it, shouldn't I? Nose: pleasant esters with a distinctly vinegar note. Almost some olive in there. Classic pineapple and banana with some honey, but overall more muted spicy than fruity fresh. 79Palate: esters, of course, but strongly spicy in addition. Initially salty-sour with hints of caraway and pepper. Slightly umami. Only then do the pineapple and some marzipan come in. 81Here the 21 years are really times noticeable. For me, however, it is too spicy and not fruity enough. The alcohol is not quite as well integrated.

Guter LPS mit angenehmen PLV. Gelbe Früchte, etwas dreckige Noten. Das Alter hat Ecken und Kanten abgeschliffen.

Good LPS, but clearly too much wood, smoke and acid for my taste. Not necessarily mine...
