Then you get tropical fruit and peach against old oak, mint and eucalyptus, a whiff of glue and a leathery, roasted edge one taster called almost "caroni-esque." At 65.6% the alcohol sits surprisingly well. A few felt 26 years in cask pushed it toward bitter and woody, but most were won over.

In direct comparison with the Artesanal and Rum Club, with the clearest sweetness and a very round profile. I like it very much, great balance without compromising the aromatic complexity. Impressive level, exquisite.

Surprisingly mild for the alcohol strength, the taste is too bitter for me and too much leather, leather polish, mint, lots of wood and pencil shavings. Nevertheless, a typical 95 profile, but I know better ones from this vintage...

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is very pleasant with tropical, dried fruits like mango, currants, pineapple and roasted, spicy wood with caramel, chocolate and smoke. On aeration, the molasses is vegetal, herbaceous, the wood nutty with leather, some pastry, there is an unripe banana, melon, perhaps pear and a lot of vegetal notes like red bell peppers, lavender, earthy like pencil shavings.From spices, cardamom could not be missed.Very complex... 8,5:On the palate, the attack is woody with spices like vanilla, cardamom, clove, roasted notes like cocoa, pastry and leather.The fruits are dried with figs, apricots, tropical with mango and yellow with peaches, melon. There are medicinal notes with menthol, polish, bitter rubber.The molasses is vegetal and minty when the rum is rested.Very pleasant pastry notes arise.... 8,6:The finish is woody, dry with charred notes like smoke, chocolate, pastry, caramel, nuts and leather, then spices, tannins.The fruits are dried like currants, apricots, yellow with peaches. Really good EMB. Very fruity with great alcohol integration. Nose comes with nice sweetness, tropical fruits and some ester. On the palate again tropical fruits, herbs and some leather... wood not really worth mentioning. I find the price-performance ratio just about appropriate here.

Edit: tried again and found it good. At the Community Tasting Nürnberg, I was deeply introduced to the world of Clarendon and grew fond of it. For me, the differences between 7 different bottlings were rather small. I liked them all. Probably it was more the quantity why I couldn't really distinguish anything anymore. Will taste all again calmly one by one.

04.09.2022 Meeting up for a nice after event party at my hotel. Good rum and food spread over a full day. Nose Light roasted wood, faint smoke, fruits, light mint, floral, light glue. Palate Medium dry, wood, light roasted, fruits, light mint, light chocolate. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, dried fruit, light caramel, faint mint.

Retasted against COR no10 and Rum Club. All on a similar level. cOR is the fruitiest, Tara with lots of tannin. Very tasty and nicely oily 1995 EMB... I like it. Mint, polish, leather, wood, fruit and even flowers. Much better than I expected... I give a strong 91 here with a tendency to round up (which I might do on the next tasting).

This Clarendon packs a punch and needs time in the glass to develop. Then it rewards you with a nice fresh basket of fruits on the nose. On the palate it is intense and shifts somewhat to the spicy side. Overall a fresh cheeky Clarendon.

Tasted again, the rest from a bottle from Serge (thanks!), which had been open for a while. Still intense and delicious on the nose. Herbs, mint, roasted and a bit smoky, but with nice peach notes. This impression is confirmed on the palate. Wood not too dominant, alcohol also well integrated. Peach iced tea on the finish. Very tasty!

Wow, this one really packs a punch. Great EMB with an insane play of aromas between fruity and spicy. Very woody, but I really like that here. The alcohol could have been a bit better integrated, but hey, that’s nitpicking on a very high level. After some time in the glass it gets increasingly "dirtier" and gets a slight Caroni touch.

Clarendon 1995 EMB in direct comparison. The Tara brings the most sweetness and the best integrated alcohol. It is therefore clearly more appealing. The fruit notes also come through better. Everything else is there too, but not quite as well balanced as CoR or RA.

In direct comparison with the Rum Artesanal 1995. The Tara has significantly more spiciness and wood notes on the nose and overall is less rounded. I especially miss the nice vanilla sauce that the RA has. Still incredibly successful.

Nice strong nutty-fruity nose. Slight glue notes present. Extreme menthol power on the palate. Very long-lasting and insanely intense. A strong piece. Wonderful and recommendable. Still a dream on the re-tasting.

The long barrel aging has clearly stamped the rum: woody, bitter, dark notes, spicy. Little left of Jamaica here. Not a rum for in-between. Alcohol could be better integrated, but with lots of standing time still okay. Interesting, but for me unfortunately aged too long in barrel to give a higher rating.

Awesome stuff. Fruit, wood, eucalyptus, tobacco in perfect symbiosis. Finish slightly bitter but for 26 years of barrel aging more than acceptable. Alcohol with almost 66% sensationally integrated. Dream stuff!!!

Precious rose oil (doTERRA quality) and thick liquorice. Wet earth and muddy roots from the jungle nearby (what?!) plus some hints of nutmeg and cloves, giving it a nice christmassy twist. That's complexity lasses and lads. After a while in the glass one also finds some stewed apricots, alright. The nose rattles like a snake. Palate Bursts like a cannonball! Thick and heavy the initial start coats the whole palate, delivering bittersweet pink grapefruits juice, caramel, pineapples, dark chocolate and hints of rubber, almost caroni-esque. Very good. 65,6%, sure? Wonderfully integrated we'd say. Now, it's lacking a wee bit of creaminess compared to the Velier, but that just might be our personal taste. Still it has a profound sweetness with being super sippable and delicate compared to some other old Jamaicans, like the two Monymusk 1984 by Velier for example. Finish Quite sure you can taste it even the second day after. So much about the length. The cloves, the grapefruit peels and the rubber just don't wanna leave the party.

Strong, spicy, tropical fruit, redcurrant and peach. Also mint and pencil shavings. Great EMB. The tropical maturation makes it very robust and intense. Not a rum for beginners, as it is likely to be a little too much for them.
