Dead Reckoning Rum HMS Antelope (Navy Rum Release)
"Simple and sweet" is how one member sums it up, and that lands fairly: burnt sugar, dried fruit and almond over a roasted, leathery base. Several tasters got real flavor when they hunted for it — cappuccino, sour cherries, toffee — but others found the middle a bit faint and flat. At 55% there's heat, and a bitter almond edge runs through the finish.
- Burnt sugar depth
- Dried fruit notes
- Quality young rum

How does Dead Reckoning Rum HMS Antelope (Navy Rum Release) taste?
Aggregated from 17 community reviews.
Burnt-sugar, dried-fruit sipper with almond bite Most land around solid: good Demerara burnt-sugar and dried-fruit character, but a few found the palate vague and the finish short with a bitter almond edge. Quality young rum, just uneven.

8,3:On the nose, the first impression we get is woody with roasted notes like chocolate, nuts, butterscotch, leather, spicy with vanilla, thick, fruity with tropical (coconut) and yellow fruits, some hay. On aeration, fruits become dried with apricots, there is a melon, the wood is smoky and creamy with toffee, some industrial, metallic notes arise, like rubber, copper. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is balanced and tasty with lots of fruits like banana, toasted coconut, apricots, raisins, as the wood is roasted with cream toffee, leather, pastry, burnt sugar, nuts, spicy, molasses opens with hay, later black tea.Resting helps the rum with new spectre of tones like green fruits, plum, industrial, medicinal ones with menthol, rubber and some copper.Along the way, it becomes sweet, thick with honey. 8,4:The finish is long, coppery and dry, balanced with all variety of notes from the palate... A good blend of Demerara burnt sugar/ caramel notes and some fruity notes. Wood, leather and dried fruit on the nose. Pastries, cappuccino, heat, burnt sugar, almond and sour cherries on the palate. Finish is sweet, with almonds and dried fruit. It has a good suite of flavours when looked for but some are quite faint which hampers the rating.

Interesting nose, some light peat with roasted barrel influence and chocolate. Mouth is a bit non discript, with hay and almond as well as some fruity elements. The finish was short with bitter edge and barrel and dried fruit notes. A blend which I had hopes for but ended up being a bit flat

Read full review →It works well though. Rum from quality producers - even at a relatively young age will beat those 25 Year Solera Additive ridden concoctions all day long for me. Excellent. Highly recommended - if you do come across a bottle buy one!
