Blackcurrant and cocoa powder hit first — several tasters land on the exact same picture: a boozy chocolate praline soaked in cassis. Underneath sit tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, banana), a creamy, almost syrupy body, and that classic TDL menthol on the finish. A 22-year Trinidad cask at 57.5% that drinks far softer than the ABV suggests. A couple of drinkers found it too polite and quick-fading.

Very fruity and inspiring floral nose. Incredibly intense and almost perfume-like. Creamy and multi-layered on the palate. The typical mint is added on the finish. Perfectly integrated alcohol. Excellent T.D.L!

Mint, red fruit jelly and baby bananas and other tropical fruits on the nose. Also some smoke and acacia honey. Smoke, honey, mint and tropical fruits again on the palate, a little lime zest and bitter cocoa nibs. Again passion fruit bananas from Madeira. Reminds me somehow discreetly both in taste and on the nose of an 86, only with a lot of fruit! An extremely positive surprise! An absolute exception TDL. Chapeau to swell de spirits for another excellent cask selection! 😍

A nose to die for. The most expressive rum I've ever smelled. Fruit, banana, blackcurrant, cocoa notes, mint. On the palate, it explodes. Blackcurrant is very present. It's sweet, delicious and very fruity. The profile changes with each sip, however, and they also turn out to be more woody, with notes of coffee. The alcohol is there, very discreet despite the 57°. Ideal. Matching finish and pleasant length on the palate. 89 for not putting it right up there with Swell's <>H. But the profile is so different that it surely deserves to be. Superb. Edit: a piquant candy. Taste, close your eyes, travel :)

The nose starts with plum liqueur and black currant. The alcohol stings a bit on the nose. Very complex and not so easy to pin down. Palate: Wow, what a surprising fruitiness! Black currant in incredible intensity, goes over to cassis. Not so easy to perceive anything else next to it!Finish: continued black currant, spice and mint. This is really a special T.D.L , very good choice and very fair price!

Nose: Very floral, fruits, fresh. Very nice and almost delicate profile. Palate: intense and complex. Combining floral notes with herbs and fruity notes embedded in some sweetness. Rather on the elegant side compared to other TDLs.

A very limited but really good rum. Intense on the nose but complex and well balanced on the palate. Very good balance between spices and fruit and I like the roasted wood notes. The chocolate is more obvious in the empty glass after a while.

The next TDL Crosstasting is coming up. This time the 2000 vintage: the Tamasoi against the Swell. The nose of both rums immediately makes it clear what makes the 2001-2003 vintages so special. The nose here is not flat, but the tar, menthol and heavy roast aromas are missing. The noses are very similar. The Swell shows mostly caramel, toffee, sweet cocoa plus ripe to dry fruit (crumbly apple, ripe banana, dried dates). I do not find the tart sweetness of black currant (typical in Cabernet Sauvignon) here. The Tamosi still brings a tart plantiness that adds a bit more complexity. In the mouth it becomes a bit more interesting, but still remains very "Spanish". The aromas of the nose are joined by a few more tropical fruits and a hint of herbs. The finish is very soft and smooth, with no intrusive bitterness and just a bit of tart tea. Alcohol integration and ripeness are great, but aromatically this is clearly lacking for me. Honestly, I do not understand how the ratings can be so different and the Swell should be one of the best rums 2022. This hype passes me by. For me, both rums are about the same on, the Tamosi with the slightly more interesting nose but a rather thin mouth and the Swell which is intense and round but lacks the tension. The Swell is maybe a touch ahead at the whole distance.

That was unexpected... Insanely good! Excessive fruit on the nose complemented by vanilla, chocolate and honey. Very round! In the mouth, this particular bottling shows a new facet and comes around the corner with roasted flavors like coffee. Absolutely mild and very honey and caramel intense. The finish fuses the nose and mouth into an intense and complex experience. Bombastic!

first incredulous amazement 😳What are these notes? It goes towards dusty cocoa powder and black currants. Then again more familiar TDL markers like tobacco, red fermented fruits, vanilla, but also iodine and marshmallows (?). On the palate red fruit jelly, chewy tobacco, a few hints of Caroni auto shop. Quite heavy and complex. Roasty sweet finish. The menthol notes as with the RA TDLs I have here only subtly. A TDL that - especially on the nose - really stands out again from the other good representatives of his trade (2001-2003 TDLs), really exceptional!

A T.D.L from Swell de Spirits that deserves some time to be savored. The nose is slightly closed at first before opening up to a more aromatic bouquet. Tropical fruits and cocoa compete in deliciousness on a soft base of caramel and brown sugar. The menthol is quite discreet, only appearing after a long aeration to bring its share of freshness. The woodiness and spices are homogeneous and elegant. A very round, indulgent but complex rum that you can linger on for hours. On the palate, this is a rum from another dimension: notes of red fruits, especially blackcurrant and redcurrant, explode in the mouth, accompanied by a burst of exotic fruits (pineapple, mango, banana) and a wave of greenery with menthol, floral notes, eucalyptus, and aromatic herbs. The rum is creamy here and surprisingly indulgent, ranging from chocolate and cocoa powder to honeyed and candied notes, passing through coffee, roasted hazelnuts, mild spices, and fine woodiness. A spectacle combining elegance, intensity, complexity, and indulgence. The finish is extremely long, very fruity (blackcurrant, dried fruits, banana, mango, pineapple) and very indulgent on chocolate and cocoa, honey, caramel, hazelnut, coffee, and vanilla. The spices and smoky notes add liveliness, while the menthol and eucalyptus provide softness and subtlety. An extremely well-crafted, complex, exuberant rum worthy of its reputation.

Very complex, I can't even distinguish one by one from the daily aromas, rich fruit (especially tropical) and spice notes, very interesting. It's a bit more woody on the palate, unique, because you can barely smell it, very fruity, slightly less complex than smelling, but still very consistent. It smells really good and fresh! I've tasted a lot of good T.D.L over the past year, and this one is no exception. Smooth. not only a bottle to be savoured, but also a good choice to sip when relaxing at leisure. At a reasonable price, this bottle and Plantation 2001(antipodes of LMDW) would be one of my repeat purchases.

What an extraordinary rum...On the nose initially a lot of fruit, especially black currant , the longer it lingers in the glass appears an intense cocoa note! The palate is intense and quite complex! 👃 lots of candied fruits at the bottom of the pot, tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, banana, guava), red fruits (currants freshly picked from the garden, raspberry) and citrus (candied orange, kumquat). Lovely sweetness of cooked sugar, nougatine, vanilla cream sprinkled with cocoa, pink pepper, slight smoke of noble wood, frangipani flowers, light solvents. Magnificent nose, complex, intense and aromatic. 😋 A perfect combination of chocolate and green mint candy, it's After Eight 🤩 All kinds of sweet fruit pastes my grandmother gave me when I was little, with tropical fruits, dried fruits and red fruits. It's delicious. A touch of soft caramel and flower honey. Fine and smoky wood, spicy, vanilla, slightly chocolatey, bitterness, dry mint. Roasted oilseeds in the pan. Excellent mouth, elegant, concentrated and tasty. ⛳ Beautiful finish, menthol freshness, stewed fruits passing by, the wood a bit more present, always this greedy chocolate, mint, vanilla, accompanied by a bed of slightly acidic fruits. 💡An excellent representative of the 2000 vintage at TDL, maybe even the best of all to date. The first thing to mention here is the design of the bottle. Most beautiful bottle 2022.In the nose pineapple, lots of honey, smoky and fermented. Balanced, alcohol perfectly integrated.In the mouth it continues similarly, now also hazelnuts and tobacco.A beautiful rum off the beaten path. Remarkably complex and delicate.

A fabulous nose, I've rarely taken such a slap at a rum keel. Fruit all over the place, flowers, harlequin candy, a hint of vanilla and menthol. The palate is beautiful, well-integrated but much more spicy, woody and mentholated. Tropical fruit completes the picture, but it's not similar to the nose, where the fruit took over. Like everyone else, I think this rum is sublime.

🚀 TDL 2000 – Trinidad in grand mode The first collab with Fabien from Clos des Millésimes. TDL is the soul of Trinidad, and this vintage packs a punch. Loads of yellow fruits, an ultra-complex palate... and then that legend of Caroni casks always in the back of the mind. 😏 A monster of pleasure!

An exuberant nose, with exotic fruits, banana, on a bed of cocoa, and a deep mint (not fresh mint). There also seems to be acacia honey (thanks Philipp, I hadn’t put my finger on it). On the palate, the creamy texture is pushed to the max, it almost feels like a syrup! Good cocoa, an explosion of fruits, to my mind passion fruit, lots of mint, and always that honey in the background. Finish more herbal, mentholated, and yellow fruits, a bit shorter and a bit less long than its predecessor. Slight white pepper in the long run. In short, nose more open, more cocoa. Palate creamier, less spice, and finish a bit shorter maybe. Hard to separate them in terms of points, these are two extraordinary editions.

Very fruity with a multi-layered aroma profile that reveals itself over time and a few sips. Perfume-like – reminds of industrially made flavors in fruit gum (candies). Alcohol very well integrated, very harmonious. Elegant and complex. But also soft and smooth. Overall, it creates little tension.

Exceptional nose right after the pour. You can smell it 3mn away. Complex : cacao, banana, red fruits (raspberry, blackberry…). Taste is rich but well balanced, red fruits, vanilla, onctuous, minty finish, long. Very nice !

Here is a fruitiness I did not expect. Very tropical and very ripe. On unusual fruits like jackfruit. Very intense fruitiness but also very different from a Jamaican: no esters, but a bit of vinegar on the nose and very ripe exotic fruits. However, apart from that, quite little diversity. A ginger side on the palate. I find nothing exceptional here.

This TDL seems to be one of the RumX community favorite release from the distillery. I now understand why. Clinical alcohol integration on both nose and palate, excellent aromatic depth and an amazing profile with loads of black/red fruits notes. Definitely the receipe for a great TDL. ... The TDL distillery produces beautiful, delicate mint rums. Unfortunately, mint is not always the main flavor, but traces of it can always be found in TDL rums. One of the rums you must taste in your life to have a complete overview of flavors in the rum world. No other distillery produces rums with a mint flavor.

On the nose, it's very indulgent. You can feel exotic fruits, pineapple and mango, but also blackcurrant, vanilla. Notes of cocoa and roasted dried fruits (hazelnuts, Brazil nuts). A menthol note gently caresses the nostrils. On the palate the exotic fruits come out again then the blackcurrant explodes. A little peppery side disturbs the taste buds and the woodiness extends the tasting and brings a nice length. The alcohol is well integrated and it remains very indulgent. An amazing rum that I can't wait to taste again in a while to see the evolution.

👃: typical of TDL from the early 2000s with fresh notes of menthol, grenadine, blackcurrant and very slightly wood/damp chai. Some toasted wood notes. It's fresh and promises a nice fruity indulgence. 👄: Menthol arrives first then the fruity notes come with again grenadine and blackcurrant as well as chlorophyll and herbal notes reminiscent of hemp. Lots of freshness and unlike the nose, there are little or no toasted notes. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is long, fruity then ends with menthol and finally brown sugar. To conclude, a magnificent TDL that is a pleasure to drink and drink again. Its only flaw is that I don't have another bottle. ;-)

Beautiful TDL where a fragrant floral fruity taste was successfully combined with minty technicality. On the palate, the fruit that stands out to me is mango, then cocoa and coffee with vanilla. After a while, a more bitter taste full of mint sets in. The alcohol is perfectly integrated.

I'll skip this one, I expected a lot given the rave reviews. But during our full TDL lineup, our eyes met and smiles faded, I think I didn't immediately say who it was at first, but it was already far behind in our minds. It's a good rum but too shy, it fades too quickly on the palate, basically not what I look for in a TDL. This one could very well have been a post-2003 TDL where TDL markers are more subtle. In the votes, it ranks last out of 5.

What a marvel! It's a really excellent rum, a gem, a candy. Softness, roundness, a very well integrated power. Swell has set the bar very very high. Slight notes of cocoa, ending with a long finish that continues in sweetness.
