22.05.2026 Tasting with the "gang" and what a wonderful evening we had 😊🙏🥃 ------- 06.10.2023 retasting between 2021 - 2022 - 2023 and it lost a few points. ------ Now we have 3 great Black Tot releases. The 50th Anniversary, Master Blender 2021 and Master Blender 2022 and I like them all. They're also scored pretty closely to each other by me. The releases are really close to each other so the day decides which one wins. I like the darkness of it with smoky wood and warm palate as well as the long finish. I was very surprised at the final result when sipping this one at the German Rum Fest and I will have a few bottles when accessible.

The 2nd time tasting it tastes me somehow not quite as good. Alcohol seems quite unbalanced and overall he is too smoky and woody for me ... Is okay but no exception rum

#22nd dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: fruity, apricot, coconut, orange peal, woody, coffee Mouth: complex, chocolate, caramelized, minty, licorice Finish: mid long, dry, minty, chocolate, mocha, barrel notes, toasted A very enjoyable blend. I’ve missed a bit of the spicyness of a good navy blend. All in all it’s well blended, round, balanced, complex with a lot of fun. For me: 2020>2021>2022 My prediction: This could be from Belize or Foursquare… a bit tricky approx. 50% approx. 20 years of aging

in direct comparison with the MBR 21:In the 21, the Hampden portion is clearly perceptible, in the 22, however, I perceive the Foursquare portion. In addition to the coconut and chocolate, I still have very clear orange peel / tangerine and some allspice. On the palate, the differences are no longer so great. However, the 21er still seems a touch more intense, and has a longer finish. The BT 50 remains the measure of things, then the MBR 21, then the MBR 22.

Full flavor with oak spice, licorice and nutmeg, later on to stewed banana, demerara sugar and chocolate. There is a lot going on, but I like, that it finds a good balance. The aftertaste is long, with more cinnamon and spicy chocolate, anise, dry tobacco and ripe fruits. A well-structured rum blend, with a somewhat heavy Trinidad style base. A lovely tropical fruitiness and dark sweetness add extra layers. Overall a nice rum 👍

Nice pleasant sipper, easy to drink in between. But for me not a highlight for the price. In contrast to its predecessor, the BlackTot 2021, a step backwards in terms of taste. It's a shame that the level could not be maintained.

A harmonious Navy Blend, which leaves beautiful spicy and grassy notes on the nose before giving way to more caramelized, chocolate and caffeinated aromas. Toasted hazelnuts, dried and exotic fruits bring an additional sweetness on an already very sweet profile.In the mouth, the attack is warm, spicy, with a slight bitterness brought by herbs and thyme. The spices dominate the proceedings, while the roasted and caramelized notes accompany a subtle and delicate fruitiness.The finish is unfortunately rather short. We still perceive the herbs, spices and typical notes of Guyana. We feel a strong influence of Demerara (Enmore or Versailles at first sight) which perfumes well the global profile. The alcohol is well integrated. One could criticize a lack of vivacity and length on the finish, but it remains a good Blend for the 2022 edition, very pleasant and accessible, both for the palate and the price.

On the nose, delicious cocoa, coffee, and warm, woody notes. On the palate, mainly chocolate, coffee, spices, and light fruity notes. Sweetness of caramel. A bit barrel and woody. After several sips, the woody notes with raisins and caramel come to the fore most prominently. The finish is medium to long. It stays pleasantly warm in the mouth for a long time with the cocoa flavor, mint and vanilla. This is a nice rum for an evening. I know that I often tasted the entire series (50th, 2021, 22, 23, 24) back-to-back, and this was the weakest one for me.

Blind in the RumX calendar: had held him for a Spanish-style rum, that does not speak for the rum.nose and palate without noteworthy features, very round and pleasing. In the aftertaste then more spice and barrel influence. Moderate blend, does not really convince me. The blend to the 50th Anniversary I like better.

Please do not misunderstand: This is a good rum. But I am still rather disappointed. I liked both Velier Navy's very very much and I wanted to try this one: After all, it's a very similar price to the Tiger Shark. But it doesn't even come close in taste. Yes, it has Guyana in it. Also some Caroni. But somehow ... it's all too bright for me, and the Barbados component makes it all too boring. Too light, un-dark, un-heavy, not smoky enough. Conclusion: for the money prefer the Tiger Shark. Just my personal taste 😉

A well constructed Navy style blend. Im getting spices, darm chocolate and some tobacco. Dark with a layer of fruitiness. Balanced. A great rum, however the origional 50th anniversary bottling is the best of the series thus far in my opinion.

A rather pleasant navy rum. Sweeter and more indulgent than I expected. Notes of tobacco, glue, rubber. Esters. A real blend with a well-marked "navy" style. Really very pleasant.

Fruity and spicy, not getting much Guyana out of it. Lacking in complexity compared to 2021 & 2023. There is a alight mintyness on palate & finish that I find rather distracting. Still solid but last place conpared to the other annual releases.

Last rum for today. Definitely very chocolatey on the nose and palate. But not too sweet as one might think. The perfect mixing ratio was found here. I recommend this rum, really tasty.

I am pleasantly surprised. Normally rums with this alcohol content are nothing for my beginner's palate. Here, however, the alcohol is very well integrated, not at all tangy. Flavor-wise, it's quite versatile: chocolate, caramel, banana and other fruits with a woody note. I like it. Unfortunately, I lack comparison to its predecessors.

Tasting notes: Nose: a bit more closed, very marked by dark chocolate, coffee, and a bit of coconut. Palate: a richer texture that follows the nose well. As a result, the blend is more balanced but also a bit simpler on the palate. Finish: moderately long, more spicy, woody, and warm. Only a discreet veil of menthol soothes the palate a bit. More balanced, a bit simpler, but a finish that gives a second wind to this vintage! Note a beautiful creamier texture, the one I liked the most in the lot.

Tasted quickly at the Rhumfest. I preferred the 2021 version than this one. Flavors a little less greedy, more difficult to access. But at the end of the afternoon, it would ask to be tasted again in better conditions

RumX Advent calendar 2022: nice sipper but mediocre blend. Lots of dried fruits and orange peel, alongside strong barrel influence, licorice and spices. Caramel provides the sweetness. Alcohol well integrated.

Considering the price, I'm a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, a fine but not too complex navy rum that offers the body of an adolescent. With nice aromas. Suitable for daily sipping but for the price, there are also much more affordable companions.

RumXmas 2022, #22, blind: First impression: something Foursquare, Maybe Belize is possible too. This does not get away with being a high quality navy blend. After it was revealed, I poured the 50th anniversary next to it together with the RumClub HQNB. Talk about a difference. The 2022 was by far the least in quality. Not worth it’s price tag, not even close. PS: as a stand alone I would’ve maybe rated it higher, but in comparison with the other two it just falls short

Blend in the style of a navy rum. The Jamaican part is the hardest to detect. The Barbados part is the one that dominates the most for me. On the nose, subtle grassy and coconut notes amidst confit/toasted aromas. The palate is heavier, with pastry and spices like clove/nutmeg. Pleasant finish with very dark sugar.

Navy rums are not something I have much experience with, but I like Mal. And this one is very very pleasant. In the nose you feel smoked wood, leather, caramel and fruit. On the palate, leather tastes of Guyana dominate and spicy notes of Barbados.

I bought this rum during a stopover in Luxembourg, hesitating between the Tiger Shark and this Black Tot. It's a good rum, but I find it a bit expensive. On the nose, you find marked notes of dried fruits, wood, with a hint of chocolate. On the palate, the attack is chocolaty, then the woodiness quickly takes over. The profile is quite complex, dry, rather round and well balanced. The finish is woody, of medium to long intensity, hard to decide but it remains dominated by wood. A good rum overall, but I expected a bit more.

Tasted at the GRF against the 2023. The 2022 is a dark Navy Blend. The Guyana/Barbados share is very dominant. What it does, it actually does very well. But I miss some depth and I liked the 2023 much better.

Completely different than 2021, definitely more similar to 50th Anniversary. It's like raw cocoa in liquid form. A bit of leather, a bit of smoke, lots of chocolate, espresso, spices and oak. We also have dried tropical fruits, orange peel and ripe bananas. Delicious, mature, a bit cheeky rum.

I smell Guayana the most...wherever it is in the blend, its taste overpowers everything else for me...it mixes everything - wood, fruit, a bit of technicality. Nice finish - just the way I like it - after tasting it, the flavor unfolds across the palate and warms you up from the inside - just Navy rum..the perfect companion for long winter evenings..

Without playing today with the comparison of "which Black Tot Better: 50th Anniversary, 2021, 2022, or 2023" I can say that it is simply a delicious rum. Such an outright archetype of rum I would say. The flavor that best fits the word "rum" for me. Only here, in addition to that first sweetness, fruitiness we get cool tobacco, pepper, fragments of Jamaican esters, some rotten barrel, some sherry elements, grapes, chocolate, mint. To paraphrase the guys from the "From a different barrel" blog, I can say that this is a great "rum flavored rum". 😆

The nose has a pronounced caramel. Also chocolate 🍫 and coconut. Of course also wood. On the palate the rum is very strong and spicy. I also taste caramel and chocolate on the tongue. The finish is long and strong. For me a good rum.
