My son offered me a glass of this Agricole from the Longueteau distillery in Guadeloupe. It’s a blend of vintages aged for more than 6 years in cognac and new oak barrels. Each of the batches are bottled in 1400 numbered bottles. The nose is well balanced, round, fresh, woody, spicy and complex with scents of smoke, fruits, oak, vanilla and caramel. At the palate it goes on in the same way and is very sophisticated with dominating flavors of smoke, tobacco and vanilla together with some hints of salt. The finish is rather long with the flavors from the palate, especially the smoke and the tobacco, lingering on.

A blend of rums older than the Prélude edition (5 to 12 years), and this is felt in the finesse and depth of the aromas developed. Here we have a range of sharp aromas, from spices (licorice, nutmeg) to tropical fruits, through toasted wood, nuts, sugarcane, aromatic herbs, and butter. The profile is round, structured and well crafted. The complexity and delicacy are even more noticeable on the palate. The palette expands with notes of tobacco, slightly bitter dark chocolate, but also notes of honey and citrus that complement the spices and wood on the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated, because despite a relatively low strength, you perceive all aspects of a profile that was surely crafted with the greatest care. The finish is particularly long, with herbal notes, a darker facet on the cask, nuts, coffee and leather, but also sweet spices and citrus that complete the cane juice. A very nice surprise, surely underrated due to marketing (a fancy name on a beautiful decanter is not always a good sign) and for a reasonable price.
