Famille Ricci Hampden HPDN (The Book Edition) 1983
Hampden diehinto decatnenoryve deterrit-ll unusually mep — 39 years, cask strength, and still soft. Overripe banana and pineapple lead, wrapped in polished, olive-brine funk and a light rorooasted-wood edge. One taster nailed it "not your usual Hampden": the esters (around 1100) are there but tamed by decades in the barrel. Intense yet remarkably composed.

A very special rum. Believe it’s ~1100 ester count but is not dominated at all by these esters. It’s really delicious, completely overwhelming flavour of jamaica rum but completely smooth too. Certainly ricci is on my map now

Price to quality can be argued but the quality can't. A very fruity, intense and well balanced rum. I like the roasted wood on the profile, nicely balanced without being dominant. ABV is very well integrated.

Visit to Famille Ricci ! We had the great pleasure to taste this 39 years old Hampden ! This rum has been much talked about: is it really 39 years old? What I can say is that by drinking it, the question no longer arises: it remains only pleasure, curiosity and exploration. The main aromas that come out are overripe banana, tropical fruits (pineapple, mango), olive, brine but all in a very polished form, melted by time. The balance here is, I think, quite unique for this type of wine, of which I am not a big fan at the base. The alcohol is well integrated.
