One taster called it "a super vitamin-boosted candy" — and that fits. Buttery caramel, milk chocolate, ripe banana and orange up front, with a heavy, almost oily texture from the wine-cask influence. At 64% the alcohol makes itself known, and the finish turns dry and grapey. Remarkable depth for only 4 years, though a couple of tasters wanted more harmony.

30.12.2025 Retasting and I still find it pretty good. Still think they're a bit expensive thinking about the price locally 😊 07.01.2023 relaxing at home with a friend whilst enjoying some samples. Dark in colour. Nose Fresh, balanced, fruits, spice, light pineapple, banana, overripe, light roasted, faint wood. Palate Light wood, light spicy, faint roasted, fruit, light mango, faint caramel, clove, light orange, light herbs, anise, light banana. Finish Long, light spicy, light wood, light vegetal, light licorice, banana, light caramel.

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, day 21. A lively, expressive, complex and round nose, with overripe banana, pear, a pastry side (fruit cake), a present, well-integrated wood, and a pleasant bitterness. The first sip contradicts this complex and round nose, the flavors are chaotic, the alcohol is too present. Then it calms down a bit but no harmony, you feel aromas corresponding to the nose, more like a rough cognac, but in complete disorder. The woody bitterness accompanies a finish without finesse. A beautiful nose but the rest is disappointing here.

After the Renaissance from the White Alligator barrel was already a real positive surprise, today again followed up with two interesting bottlings, one stored in the Bas-Armagnac barrel, the other in the noble red (Botrytis grapes sweet wine) barrel, again with super long fermentation, so that it comes on the nose again to a real aroma fireworks. Interestingly, however, both are quite different from the aroma profile. In the Armagnac Cask I have more grapes, the noble red goes more in the direction of yogurt and it also somehow still has something between storage room and cheese plate, which I like but quite 😅 On the palate both with tobacco, vanilla. Here, too, the noble red scores a little more. Conclusion: again two extreme bottlings that are really fun. Makes you want to try more!

Very exciting bottling from Taiwan! For just 4 years of aging, a lot has already happened here. Milk chocolate, cinnamon, dates, ripe bananas, raisins and orange peel together with butterscotch and cream toffee, as well as peanut butter. Alcohol very well integrated! Could pass blind as a mix of Barbados, Mhoba and Agricole!!

Here is a rum of great opulence. The nose is particularly mellow with its ultra-gourmet notes of buttery caramel, chocolate, nuts (coconut and pecan) and banana. The profile is heavy and generous but supported by a spicy woodiness that reminds you there's punch in the liquid. A true olfactory candy. From the very first moments on the palate, you get a good slap of sweetness and alcoholic tones (armagnac). It is again heavy, with an almost oily and syrupy texture. Buttery caramel, toffee, banana, raisin, orange, chocolate and mild spices follow one another in a feast of indulgence. But the alcohol is well present and packs a punch with its 64%. The finish is long and lets the astringency speak more with acidic notes of wine, red fruits and even bitterness with coffee. Still, you find the archetype of banana, pecan nuts and well-buttered, fatty caramel, which maintain the heaviness of the profile. A super vitamin-packed candy that justifies why Taiwan must remain an independent country.

Is this a wine barrel finish? The fruity sweetness of the base is still readily apparent. The rum seems much older with nice wood/yeast/agricole notes. Very good combination!

Very buttery and fat on the nose and palate, very pastry-like, you can almost smell a croissant. The texture is also very fatty. Aromas of cooked wine follow throughout the tasting, with a large portion of fatty nuts. Very long on the palate. The alcohol, 64°, could almost go unnoticed! It reminds me of a Ten Cane, but very fatty. For a 4-year-old, I find it remarkable! However, I can't find the right balance in the aromas. Finally, the price seems inappropriate...

Very nice fruity aroma. Original, winey and slightly candy-like. Taste quite sweet, fruity, astringent, but overall I like it. Warm finish, good balance of tannins, dried fruit, mix of red berries and wine.

Had never tried a Renaissance from Taiwan and wanted to, and I didn't regret giving a go to this Noble Rot Ageing, in the nose of which I've not been surprised to find sugar notes. Nose is also fruity, with woody, chocolate and butter scents. More discretes, along with these I feel butter caramel, vanilla and some orange tones. Palate is also fruity with butter, chocolate, butter caramel and very light vanilla. I find it as delicious as the nose. Finish is long, with dry grape, wood, butter, butter caramel and very light vanilla and coffee notes. A very good rum !

Quite a concentrated rum, I'll have to do a second tasting letting it open more. On the nose, it's quite heavy, I get some chocolate notes. On the palate, I find it aggressive with the pep of 'youth' but with texture. The image of orange Pims comes to mind directly. The finish is a bit short. 8.2 Second tasting: nose still very concentrated. Fruit paste at the end of the mouth. Warms like a fruit brandy. 8.3 second tasting.

Golden advent calendar RFC 2024 New, for me rum-unknown destination - Taiwan. In the nose notes of fruit and spices. Interesting is a hint of a very specific cask. The taste is interesting on the contrary very, spices with something I can’t quite place.

Nose: Fermented strawberries, strawberry yogurt, vanilla, oak, caramel, grapes. Palate: The grape note with its acidity highlights the strawberry yogurt flavor very nicely here, and harmonizes very well with this main flavor. Very little sulfur comes on the palate, barely perceptible. The alcohol is noticeable but still balanced for me. Banana I no longer have here, but burnt caramel. Very tasty rum and not as artificial-chemical as Grand Arome from Savanna. Unfortunately, an extremely short finish. Let's see what the future brings, the substance of Renaissance Distille has enormous potential.

The founders and owners of the Renaissance brand/distillery and wine enthusiasts Olivier Caen and Linya Chiou started their first experiments with juice, molasses and pot distillation back in 2013 (allegedly on the edge of legality, as laws for this activity are strict in Taiwan). The brand itself was (legally) established only in 2017. They are the first and currently still the only rum producers in Taiwan, although sugarcane cultivation has a long tradition on the island. However, Taiwanese people prefer whisky over rum. They produce small batches and single casks. By mid-2023 they had produced about 60 barrels. They pay attention to transparency of origin and production. They do not use any flavorings or colorings, although Asian legislation regarding these matters is not entirely precise. The owners insist that the entire production process takes place in Taiwan and is fully under their control, which is why they have so far refused cooperation with independent bottlers (though this is no longer entirely true, as at least one collaboration took place with Rom de Luxe). They use two types of cane. Fermentation of molasses or juice lasts between 10 and 30 days. The rum is distilled twice, then aged in new barrels of French or American oak, in barrels from red or white wine, or in barrels from other distillates, e.g. cognac, and the rum matures either in one type of barrel or some combination. The angel's share is up to 14%. The rums are not diluted and bottled at cask strength. You can say noble rot, I say, it smells like fresh dog shit with fruits and spicy. I didn’t want to even try it. Fortunately the taste is better. Chocolate with fruits. Aftertaste is fruity and dry.
