Sipped slowly at cask strength, this is unmistakably old Guyana — heavy on wood, with glue, leather, coffee and a dusty pencil-lead note that tasters use to spot a Versailles blind. Underneath sits caramel, licorice and dark chocolate, drying out sharply toward a long, faintly metallic finish. Most find the alcohol well integrated for 55.8%. Herbal and bitter more than sweet.

Edit: Tasted three different Versailles together with DomM. The highlight of the evening after the disappointing Velier Beenleighs and La Favorit. All three were very good, although in retrospect the Rum&Rock, which I had given an 8.5 at the time, was more herbal, with a profile similar to the 91 KFM. I find the TWCC and Cave Guildive more typical. But all three were very good and saved the evening. In contrast to the RX9406 I had in my glass before, this is a typical Guyana representative. The profile is slowly picking me up more and more each time. This one is more on the woody and herbal side. The alcohol is well integrated and I find it very drinkable.

Unfortunately, the Diamond from the 2004 vintage is not able to completely win me over. Rich caramel sweetness and wood on the one hand, plus a somewhat irritating metallic note and tart aromas reminiscent of the PM profile - not entirely convincing for me despite the existing aromatic complexity.

Very dark story the whole thing. Lots of spices, especially in the mouth. Strong molasses on the nose with roasted, leathery notes. In the mouth cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, coffee, Maggi, wood and glue. It has a caramel flan finish with herbs. Mega dry. Only here do earthy, pencil flavors come through, which would lead me blindly to a Versailles. A fine thing, but unfortunately the alcohol is not on top. Otherwise it would be even better.

A very woody nose. A hint of sweetness and caramel. A hint of strange soap. Same sensation on the palate. Very warm and woody. A double sensation, heavy and greedy at the same time. Caramel, licorice. Almost like a bourbon (very woody). A bitter finish. Finishes with a hint of spice and light pepper. Leather and earthiness. And good length. This rum could have been crushed by the wood. It's very woody, but greedy and pleasant. Very cool.

#7319 17.09.2026 Running a few more samples while listening to Daily Mix 05 on Spotify. A very nice rum with a nice price tag at release. Profile with industrial notes, fruits, herbs, licorice, spice, molasses, tobacco, leather, chocolate, caramel, mint, copper and a warm palate.

Edit: the oxidation has added quite a bit of smoke and burnt notes, making the Profile less attractive... Well-recognized Versailles profile. Aged but continental: little bitterness, so easy to enjoy. The alcohol is fairly well integrated. A creamy, vanilla side reminds one of custard. The plum is more in the background.

First nose clearly more woody, varnish. It smells like old Guyana, but some citrus and vegetal notes bring a certain freshness. Very nice at first glance. With aeration come caramel, dark chocolate, port notes, and white pepper. The heavy Guyana asserts itself little by little. On the palate, it's silky, elegant, but still lively thanks to a slight acidity at the start of the palate. We have a nice ensemble of dried fruits, but also a slight solvent, woody, varnish side. The heat is noticeable, and the finish marked by a metallic note straight on the palate. In length, salty notes and the bitterness of a nice espresso settle in, which would surely have been a bit too heavy if a nice menthol freshness did not lighten the whole. Really top! Character, duality & nobility. A great nose, a beautiful palate, an enchanting finish! I like everything, and at this price... BINGO!

Well, this is a beautiful piece of wood lightly soaked in rum. It smells of wood, glue and a hint of what you might call soap. On the palate goes the first intense expression of barrel, wood and leather. It pearls pleasantly in the mouth and the finish is tremendously long. Lovely.

If you want to feel the right Damond/Versailles rum, this is the one you should try. (Unfortunately Diamond is not my best rum profile, so just bellow 8/10 rating).

Rhumtour 2025 Very roasted nose. Solid rum with nice dark, creamy and vanille flavours. For me a rather short finish. But what's not to like?

A real experience – heavy, woody rum with nobility. Aroma of caramel, cocoa and spices, taste dense, a bit oaky, but beautifully balanced. It’s no lemonade – more a rum for a slow evening and a big one sitting by the fireplace to warm up.
