Pineapple, cherry and a whole basket of tropical fruit lead, with glue, varnish and solvent underneath — unmistakably Hampden. At 35 years the oak adds licorice, old wood and a little marzipan-pastry sweetness, but the esters still explode. Several tasters call it soft and rounded, wildly expressive, and are shocked it's this old. A couple found the palate a touch thin.

Day 10 of the Samples de Luxe calendar. And tasted again a year and a half later. The esters and fruits explode on the nose. The obvious Jamaica. Varnished wood and like the nose of a diving mask. The palate is surprisingly soft yet very expressive, like a Haitian clairin. The finish is long on fruits. A free and spirited rum but not classic, although I recognized Hampden. I am amazed to read that this rum is 35 years old!! I had given it 8. Only once the glass is empty does its great age make itself felt for the first time with old wood and licorice. I like it a lot.

A very fine profile of old continental Hampden with great elegance, remarkable roundness and marked by the heaviness of tropical fruit and cherry. Phenolic notes are present but not aggressive. Pastry, toffee, marzipan, vanilla and almond add their share of deliciousness to this complex, elaborate profile. The palate is opulent, very fruity (tropical fruit, citrus) and very aromatic. This is a profile of great depth, combining funky heaviness, pastry indulgence and cask finesse. The balance of flavors is perfect. The alcohol is remarkably well integrated. The finish is long and refined. Olive, lemon, banana, pineapple, mango, esters, solvents, glue, sweet spices (anise, licorice, vanilla), wood and pastry (caramel, marzipan). A superb rum that evolves gracefully throughout the tasting.

Delicious old continental Hampden. Very harmonious! I only like the one from RA better. Still, it's great to have had a sister cask in my glass. Exceptional rum in terms of well-made continental matured Jamaicans.

Hampden, HGML, 35 years. Each of these promises a lot of fun individually, together they make a bomb combo. Despite 35 years in the barrel, fruits dominate here, and not just a few but a whole basket of them. Of course, the wood has also left its marks, but the aromas and bitter tones are very harmoniously integrated into the distillate and enhance the complexity instead of disturbing. This rum is fun already when pouring, plays the full keyboard on the tongue, and remains present for a long time, as one is used to from Hampden.

Very soft, very open aromas, interspersed with sweet flavours (all sorts of sweet flavours are evident) throughout. There's not a lot of punch, but the alcohol integrates well. After several tastings: sufficient ester sense. In contrast, Kill Devil had a lower flavor concentration, and the flavor could not be opened after being placed and oxidized, which was inconsistent with the alcohol strength

Impressive Hampden on the nose, full of esters and fruits, palate follows with decent sweetness, great fruit notes, touch of herbs, some glue, barrel, complex taste overall, nice finish - very good Hampden!

Oh, 35 years in the barrel and we still strongly feel these incredible Jamaican esters. An incredibly toxic cocktail of tropical fruits. Bright South American coffee with characteristic acidity. High-quality cocoa. Barrel. Lots of barrel, but it dissolved in this cocktail. Salty olives, sour olives with sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil. Stop the world, I want to get off! The taste is cosmic tropics! It's impossible to break down into components. Sour-sweet-salty-viscous. Damn, how f***ing good... The finish is long. Here are all stages of tropical fruit life... from flower to rotten fruit. 100!
