Velier Hampden Rare Cask Series HLCF 2010

Here's the surprise: a Hampden this rounded and sweet on the nose. Twelve years of tropical aging softened the esters into cake batter, banana and caramelized pineapple, with a floral lift and enough glue to remind you it's Trelawny. One taster nailed it as balanced "pineapple flavored wood glue." Oily palate, oak and a touch of bitterness. The finish falls a little short of the nose.

Interesting color! Clearly darker also than older (continental matured) bottlings. The nose is also surprising: I find much more sweetness associated with tropical fruits (banana!) Than sonnst at Hampden. In addition, a floral note comes to it, no disturbing alcohol, decidedly balanced. All together results in an intense but not brute, versatile Hampdennase - I really like! Palate: wow, lots of sweetness again, almost immediate salivation, and very pleasant barrel notes. Hard to believe this rum wasn't aged in a sweet wine barrel! Almost perfect impression and superbly integrated alcohol. The aftertaste leaves a little compared to the very high level of nose and palate is still long and intense and again the attribute "balanced" fits 100%. Yes, this is well over 90 points for me! The price charged is unfortunately unacceptably high.

HLCF 2010 HV vs. Rare Cask: HV is more vibrant and intense, while the RC clearly shows the longer maturation. The RC comes with more sweetness on the nose and more wood influence on the palate, As this also somewhat tames the funkiness, on the first go the HV is slightly ahead in my book. Second go: Rare cask on its own with some additional time in the glas. Above holds true. Still a small upgrade. Leaving the price out of the equation, this is good (also for drinking 😉)

Nose: Oh yeah, that's the stuff... caramelized pineapple, glue, canned lichi... esters rounded off by time in the tropics, lovely. Could smell this forever. Mouth: Hm. Can't keep up with the nose, unfortunately. It's nice, but lacks complexity. The often found sour note is backed by something weirdly herbaceous... fannel seed?! Not sure. Finish: Good length, but not eternal. Major points for the nose, the rest is "just good". P.S.: Not worth the money (350€), imho.

I must say, I like this one very much! The 12 years of tropical aging in conjunction with the rather medium ester content have led to the fact that he has become very round. On the nose, therefore, cake batter and milk cream dominate. On the fruit, I got pineapple, banana, baked apple, citrus marmalade and floral notes. On the palate, citrus, oak barrel, cocoa. I could get used to this one, if only it were not for the high price 😩.

First nose Fruity and some glue....all very restrained and flat.overripe mango, papaya some banana and pineapple. On the palate again see restrained everything there what you expect from a HD HLCF but everything somehow very flat and nothing special. In the mouth fruity but also some wood and slight bitterness. Finish rather short to medium .... for the called price just not good enough (for me)

Beautiful nose, with everything you'd expect from a Hampden. Greediness in support of a big fruitiness, but well-balanced. On the palate, it's very good, with well-integrated alcohol. Frankly, a very, very fine bottling. Everyone will understand why I chose to block my appreciation at 80, of course for the completely abused and delirious pricing policy. For me, that's part of the appreciation.

A classic Hampden nose, but not too demanding with an acidic touch,On the palate it spreads oily creamy first with a sweet fruitiness, then a bit acidic. Then a smooth transition into spicy woody with a slight bitterness. This continues in the finish, which is unfortunately a bit short. The alcohol is super integrated!Overall, a great HLCF!Measured at the price, unfortunately not

Great rum. In the nose still discreet, in the palate and in the finish then great Hampden flavors with beautiful barrel influence. Find him very successful and the additional storage gives him something again.the price I leave times outside.
