Velier Hampden Rare Cask Series HLCF 2010
Overripe pineapple, nail polish and olive brine, wrapped in a creamy, oily body with licorice and a touch of roasted wood. This is a 12-year Hampden HLCF at 62.8%, and members call it a "überreife Frucht- und Esterbombe" — an overripe fruit-and-ester bomb. Several find it fruity and floral for the mark, though a few say the alcohol runs a bit hot.

How does Velier Hampden Rare Cask Series HLCF 2010 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Oily, floral Hampden ester bomb at cask strength Loved by funk fans for its floral, tropical, oily character. Most agree it's a very good Hampden, though several note it doesn't quite top other Velier bottlings, and the heat is real.

This one is even more floral than the previous one and also fruity and pretty well balanced. Intense and oily on the palate and the empty glass is really nice after an hour and I can find licorice in it.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

A direct comparison of the HLCF from Habitation Velier and from the Rare Cask series, both from 2010. The difference in maturation time is noticeable. For me, however, Habitation Velier is clearly ahead. That said, you can't go wrong with either one.

A Hampden Single Cask with the HLCF mark, whose aromatic power is evident on the nose. It offers a concentration of phenolic notes, brine, and exotic fruits. A hint of olive also bursts through. The funky side is still present on the palate with some very light spicy and woody notes. The finish is medium length, dried out by tannins and leather. The whole is round, pleasant, and controlled. A good Hampden profile, but far from exceptional, especially considering the price.

This is a very powerful HLCF... definitely not for beginners... fruit, olive, phenol on the nose... the palate is oily and heavy. Intense aromas of wood, spices and brine spread out. The alcohol is already quite present. The finish continues in the same way... something fruity appears very late. Slightly sweet, like dried mango. A fine but tiring rum

Basically a good old HLCF but this combination of extremely overripe fruit, olive brine, super sweet caramel candy and this light ester vinegar acidity doesn't turn me on, sorry. Something doesn't fit here for me. It's not balanced enough for me to give it a higher rating. And not at this price anyway.

8,5:On the nose, strong esters and nail polish, funky, with overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red, citrus fruits, olive, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the wood is roasted with caramel, confectionery and marzipan, spicy, briny, as the molasses is grassy.Sweet, overripe strawberries balance medicinal notes and spices. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is tasty, creamy with overripe tropical and red fruits, citrus, funky with esters and solvents, as the wood is roasted with caramel, spicy, briny. The fruits quickly become candied, juicy like a marmelade, the molasses is again vegetal with olive, slightly flowery...Dark berries join after resting the rum. 8,7:The finish is long, dry&tannic, balanced, complex with various nedicinal notes, roasted wood notes like chocolate, pastry, crunchy bread, cookie dough, marzipan, leather, smoky and spicy, pairing red, tropical fruits and slightly dark molasses with licorice, vegetal touch...

Sunday evening inside, after a rainy day - why not go to Jamaica? Very floral in the nose, and with time I get tropical fruits and some spicy hints. A very smooth and filling mouth-feel with notes of cocoa and a lingering taste of licorice

I would probably buy a bottle of this if it weren't for the price, I like it very much. Creamy and oily, the esters are wonderfully integrated. Wood, licorice, some olive, solvent paired with lots of tropical fruits.
Review by Skyfly
An overripe fruit and ester bomb! From nose to finish it is hard to discover other aromas. On palate and finish strong spice and light wood aromas are present. The alcohol is a bit too dominant for my taste.

Regardless of the price, a great low ester Hampden with a nice peach note. For me better than #78.

Very hampden - quite spectacular - really loved this rum. The nose was super nice, very strong, pineapple, over ripe fruits, very funky. Long long finish Quite wonderful
Review by Benoit Mahe
Hampden good but very forgettable and inferior to many other bottlings, especially from Velier. For that price, better to buy 3L of the very successful Younger.
Review by Leo Krüper
Unfortunately doesn’t stand out among the many low ester Hampdens. Not a bad rum, but not worth the money at all.
Review by Martin Spooner
Amazing nose... Very aromatic and already noticeable from afar when opening. On the palate a strong pineapple with a balanced share of esters. The intensity also fits. For me nicely balanced. I really like it a lot.
Review by Alex1981
Wonderful balanced Hampden with lower esters but a more fruity/floral profile. A bit less balanced than cask 78. Prefer the other one one, but this is like splitting hairs.
Review by Alan Bertoli
If the Jamaican imprint is there and unmistakable. It's a bit rude but very interesting. Rums like this drive me crazy. Ripe tropical fruit, solvents, esters, alcohol, they are the perfect compromise to appreciate.
