Habitation Velier Hampden Celebrating LM&V 5th Anniversary (Magnum) HES 2019
Most people sip this one neat, and the nose is where it shines — banana, pineapple, glue and a medicinal, funky edge that punches above its three years. The palate is fruity and lighter than a full-power Hampden, with young oak, a touch of marzipan and a bitter, astringent finish. A few tasters happily drop it in a Cuba Libre too. Tropical aging did a lot in a short time.
The community says- Vibrant fruity nose
- Well-integrated alcohol

Fruity young low-ester Hampden, great nose A likable young low-ester Hampden with a lovely nose, but many feel it lacks body, depth and finish — a good rum that some wanted to be more.

Doing a quick tasting, during cooking 😜 Lovely hampden with a very cool nose, but lacks in complexity/body and finish. In my opinion the ppv rating of this one is really bad… I‘m curious, if we‘ll see some older bottling in the future.

My low expectations were completely met: a bland low ester Hampden lacking everything: hardly any complexity, little body, short finish. At first nose an artificial cinnamon note that later fades and then gives way to the typical Hampden nose. Alcohol not well integrated. Just another bland one in the sea of Hampden bottlings.
Review by SaibotZtar
Did not have high expectations... but I am positively surprised. Nice young (though not wild) Hampden. Comes across very mild... Similarity to the LROK to recognize. Fruit basket and some glue everything very restrained but somehow coherent .finish it becomes slightly bitter .
Review by Jakob
Very appealing Hampden that, despite its young age and powerful nature, absolutely manages to convince. Very balanced, round, spicy, rich esters, great fruity sweetness. A formidable debut for the HES mark.
Review by DomM
While I like the nose very much - more vibrant and fruity vs. HV LROK - the mouthfeel is just a bit too harsh for my liking in this one. Very curious to see older bottlings of the HES. With more age, I imagine this to be a very easy going sipper.
Review by Thunderbird
A good tasty Hampden, but a bit too tame for me, even though it actually contains all the important markers of a Hampden. But as mentioned at the beginning, I personally feel something is missing to give it higher marks.
Review by Leo Krüper
Solid Hampden, but nothing special. I taste little of the otherwise so brutal power in the glass. On the second tasting, unusually herbal notes for a Hampden. Reminds me of cheap Guyana rums (which I don't like), so I downgrade by another 4 points.
Review by Johannes
I am surprised! Nice tropical low Ester Hampden with good complexity, abundant fruit, light marzipan notes, rather on the astringent side.
Review by zabo
Edit: tasted again individually at leisure and corrected a little upwards Also tasted at the Kirsch Cruise 2024. A Hampden that delivers the typical markers you would expect. All in all a great rum, but it lacks that certain kick. But in the CubaLibre it proves to be very drinkable.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
Wow, they really crammed a lot of flavours into this very young rum. Very fruity with nice herbal and floral notes. The flavours just creeped across the table from opening the sample and pouring it into the glass. The empty glass has flavours even the day after sampling.
Review by Adrian Wahl
A little young, but still nice. Alcohol not perfectly integrated. Very LROK-like
Review by TheRhumhoe
A Hampden with a light and subtle profile. The nose is funky, fruity, phenolic and slightly spicy, but it's relatively soft and understated. The fruity flavors return on the palate, with a touch of floral and a hint of vanilla, but it remains very subtle. Although the alcohol is fairly well integrated, the whole lacks expression, complexity and probably aging. The finish is light but persistent in the mouth with fruity and phenolic notes mainly. A rum that changes from the very heavy and funky Jamaican profiles, but that lacks depth to play in the big league.

Was already curious about the new Marque, HES = Hampden Estate Sugars, with 253.5 gr/hlpa Esters, so between LFCH and LROK. On the nose initially restrained fermented, marzipan sweetness, baked goods. After longer standing time then more sour, towards gooseberries and a bit slightly bitter, like unripe (still green) bananas. On the palate citrus fruits, candied, young wood. In my opinion a quite successful experiment!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
I expected more from it. Sour, slightly unripe pineapple, slightly medicinal and floral perfumed. Overall, not particularly round and somewhat exhausting. I find him especially much too acidic, astringent and too alcoholic...
Review by Aussierumfan
Quite an enjoyable young hampden! Not the most complex but good nevertheless. Lots and lots of fruits, I'm getting bananas, mangos and some pineapple. Funky with mild solvents and glue. A bit rough on the edges with a shortish finish. Well worth a try!

The new HD Low Ester, I'm curious. Nose: oh yes, low ester but you can still smell some nice esters. Fresh fruity with lemon and ripe bananas, pineapple, and papaya. Besides the sweet-sour moisture, it has a distinct yogurt note. The freshness is underlined by nail polish and solvent. Very pleasant and nice nose. 8.6 Palate: first it is slightly astringent, bitter, and sour. There are the light esters. A medicinal, metallic-copper note takes over and is very present. Little fruit, if any, then a slight marzipan-pineapple. Then it becomes a bit meaty and toasty. Overall, the taste is somewhat too unripe and young. Still, not too bad. 7.8

8,3:On the nose, esters, polish, funky, some phenol, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus fruits, spicy, salty roasted wood and herbaceous tones, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, fermented red fruits join the game, slightly pungent, as some flowery notes pop up. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is rather light, medicinal with esters, pungent with fermented, almost rotten red fruits, briny olive, tropical fruits with banana and pineapple, later citrus fruits, as the wood is roasted, spicy, on oxidation a lot of flowery and grassy notes arise. 8:The finish is medium long, dry, rather astringent, slightly imbalanced, metallic, most palate notes linger on..

Guys, sorry, but this is a mega Hampden, I'm really lost for words. So medicinal, spicy and fruity on the nose, woody, vanilla and fruity on the palate. You can hardly taste the alcohol. I'm a fan of this rum. Thanks SaibotZtar for the sample.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Hampden HES, the marque that doesn't exist. Still in the glass and at least an interesting experiment. For a low-ester, very aromatic, even more on the nose than on the palate, it delivers good Hampden character.
Review by Schnubbii
Great lower-ester Hampden with good value for money. I will keep an eye out for a bottle at a reasonable price.
Review by Andi
Funky, ester, pineapple, banana, little wood, somewhat fermented.

Delicious low ester Hampden
Review by Steffmaus🇩🇰
To me it's rather complex, despite the young age. I find it very fresh and fruity to the nose, and funky, fruity and smooth to the taste. The aftertaste is lingering, and not much bitterness but flavorful
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
An interesting release, one the nose given the young age the alcohol is quite sharp, on palette it's better integrated. I like the creaminess, soft pineapple, acidity and floral touch. It has some bitterness as well, and in the end it's not really too complex, so not too sure about PLV. Thanks Tobias for sharing the sample.

Young Hampden with well-integrated alcohol. Few ester notes, fruity (citrus). Reminds me of LROK bottlings. Lacks complexity, but still quite drinkable. A few years of tropical aging would probably do this bottling good.
Review by Serge
Delicious lower ester Hampden. I like the slightly medicinal note on nose and palate. Otherwise nicely fruity with half-ripe pineapple, citrus zest and banana as well as spices. A bit bitter but not disturbing.
Review by Speedflo
For me a balanced HD, but very light and good value for money.
Review by Jonas
Quite successful for just 3 years of aging. But for me a bit too wild. The alcohol is also a bit too prominent imo.
Review by Rum Watcher
Yeah, after the second tasting I like it even more. Seems older than it is, alcohol initially very present, develops in the glass into an easy sipper with lots of caramel sweetness. Delicious.
Review by Alexander Rasch
Quite exciting what a short tropical storage makes. Amazingly spicy with many medicinal notes. Very edgy and partly also spicy. For me, no competition to the other Low Ester Hampdens such as the 2011 LFCH, as the depth is missing. A very good but not outstanding Hampden. The demands are getting higher.
Review by alex
What a treat for such a young rum. It is sure that with a longer ageing, it would be even more accomplished but I took a lot of pleasure to taste it.

Tasted at the german rum festival Very good rum. Alcohol pretty wel integrated. Very tasty

A nice promise on the nose, but a little disappointed by the rest, it clearly lacks body in the mouth, and the finish is almost non-existent.
Review by Tendero Pablo
A rather disappointing hampden
