Habitation Velier Hampden Celebrating LM&V 5th Anniversary (Magnum) HES 2019
Most people sip this one neat, and the nose is where it shines — banana, pineapple, glue and a medicinal, funky edge that punches above its three years. The palate is fruity and lighter than a full-power Hampden, with young oak, a touch of marzipan and a bitter, astringent finish. A few tasters happily drop it in a Cuba Libre too. Tropical aging did a lot in a short time.
The community says- Vibrant fruity nose

Fruity young low-ester Hampden, great nose A likable young low-ester Hampden with a lovely nose, but many feel it lacks body, depth and finish — a good rum that some wanted to be more.

A Hampden with a light and subtle profile. The nose is funky, fruity, phenolic and slightly spicy, but it's relatively soft and understated. The fruity flavors return on the palate, with a touch of floral and a hint of vanilla, but it remains very subtle. Although the alcohol is fairly well integrated, the whole lacks expression, complexity and probably aging. The finish is light but persistent in the mouth with fruity and phenolic notes mainly. A rum that changes from the very heavy and funky Jamaican profiles, but that lacks depth to play in the big league.

Ein mE durchaus gelungenes Experiment!

Quite exciting what a short tropical storage makes. Amazingly spicy with many medicinal notes. Very edgy and partly also spicy. For me, no competition to the other Low Ester Hampdens such as the 2011 LFCH, as the depth is missing. A very good but not outstanding Hampden. The demands are getting higher.

An interesting release, one the nose given the young age the alcohol is quite sharp, on palette it's better integrated. I like the creaminess, soft pineapple, acidity and floral touch. It has some bitterness as well, and in the end it's not really too complex, so not too sure about PLV. Thanks Tobias for sharing the sample.

Edit: tasted again individually at leisure and corrected a little upwards Also tasted at the Kirsch Cruise 2024. A Hampden that delivers the typical markers you would expect. All in all a great rum, but it lacks that certain kick. But in the CubaLibre it proves to be very drinkable.

Did not have high expectations... but I am positively surprised. Nice young (though not wild) Hampden. Comes across very mild... Similarity to the LROK to recognize. Fruit basket and some glue everything very restrained but somehow coherent .finish it becomes slightly bitter .

Wow, they really crammed a lot of flavours into this very young rum. Very fruity with nice herbal and floral notes. The flavours just creeped across the table from opening the sample and pouring it into the glass. The empty glass has flavours even the day after sampling.

Guys, sorry, but this is a mega Hampden, I'm really lost for words. So medicinal, spicy and fruity on the nose, woody, vanilla and fruity on the palate. You can hardly taste the alcohol. I'm a fan of this rum. Thanks SaibotZtar for the sample.

I expected more from it. Sour, slightly unripe pineapple, slightly medicinal and floral perfumed. Overall, not particularly round and somewhat exhausting. I find him especially much too acidic, astringent and too alcoholic...
Review by Aussierumfan
Quite an enjoyable young hampden! Not the most complex but good nevertheless. Lots and lots of fruits, I'm getting bananas, mangos and some pineapple. Funky with mild solvents and glue. A bit rough on the edges with a shortish finish. Well worth a try!

While I like the nose very much - more vibrant and fruity vs. HV LROK - the mouthfeel is just a bit too harsh for my liking in this one. Very curious to see older bottlings of the HES. With more age, I imagine this to be a very easy going sipper.
Review by Mentalo
Junger Hampden mit gut integriertem Alkohol. Wenig Esternoten, fruchtig (Zitrus). Erinnert an LROK Abfüllungen.

Doing a quick tasting, during cooking 😜 Lovely hampden with a very cool nose, but lacks in complexity/body and finish. In my opinion the ppv rating of this one is really bad… I‘m curious, if we‘ll see some older bottling in the future.

Review by Jonas
Review by Serge
Leckerer lower Ester Hampden.
