Agricole drinkers who like heavy cask influence will find this one unusual — the French oak pushes hard for a cane-juice rum. Expect vanilla, caramel, chocolate and coffee up front, with fresh sugarcane and citrus underneath. Several tasters were surprised how dark and woody it reads, and a few noted the short finish and warm, boozy edge at 54.3%.

Well, I have to admit, this rum is quite okay. It's relatively sweet, chocolate, vanilla and sugar on the nose, then vanilla, caramel, chocolate, leather and wood on the palate. Really better than expected.

Classic agricultural profile. Fresh cane with citrus and herbs. A light woodiness is superimposed. Lacks depth. Not a big fan of mine. I find it a little expensive. It seems borderline younger than Expression.

One of 6 samples I brought for a trip to Turkey. From the first go, this didn't register with me as an agricole in the nose. Vanilla, and a faint, grassy sweetness. In the notes I got sugarcane, vanilla and woody notes

Bottle and also in blind tasting A very special rum, made from a variety of blue sugarcane. Can't say it's the best Carouca... but very special and meaty. Reminds me a bit of the style of whisky in vermouth. Although it is sweet. Honeyed. Chocolaty. It has many strong impressions of light fruits. Floral and honey. For its age, it's a very successful and complex bottle.

A rather dark nose: burnt sugar, woody, coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, a taste of meat. Surprising this strong barrel influence on an agricole. On the palate it is less marked, but stays in the same theme: coffee, chocolate, even caramel. It's quite good but lacks a finish, which is too short.

Beautiful color, very pronounced gunpowder nose, residual roundness. Dry, well-balanced, tangy palate with a caramel finish, very pleasant! Warm finish

Pleasant nose, well-integrated alcohol. Pairs well with clementine. Light oak, medium complexity. Chocolate, leather, nuts, vanilla on the palate. On the nose, vanilla, damp wood, chocolate. Unfavorable RQP due to small production. Short finish. Well done, but lacks something to sublimate.

Nose of glue, spices and cask. The palate is much more gourmand, very fruity, with beautiful notes of caramel, sugar in various forms, and sweet spices. Citrus fruits take on an increasingly important role as the tasting progresses. Vanilla, caramel and spices accompany citrus on a long finish.

The nose is quite light with a hint of glue and alcohol, spices and vanilla brought by the cask. On the palate a well-present rancio. I found it quite alcoholic!
