Belle couleur paille claire, nez extrêmement gourmand sur le sucre, on dirait un ti’punch avec un rhum vieux ! Bouche assez forte en alcool mais très gourmande sur le miel. Finale sur le sucre !

Ich mag Chalong Bay irgendwie. Vor Jahren im Urlaub den ersten Rum unter dem Namen entdeckt und seitdem mit Interesse die Entwicklung weiterverfolgt. Nette Jungs, tolles Projekt (z.B. mit der mobilen Zuckersaftpresse um bei den Kleinbauern direkt auf dem Feld das Zuckerrohr zu pressen). Sehr eigenes florales Profil. Nicht die höchste Liga, aber lecker, pur und als Mix-Rum.

Was für ein Biest! Kraftvoll dringt er schon in die Nase, wenn er noch weit entfernt auf dem Tisch steht. Pflanzlich, Kräuter, frisch gepresstes Zuckerrohr und auch ein Hauch von Bourbon. Alkohol ist präsent, aber im Rahmen. Am Gaumen dann: ALARM! Hier macht sich der Alkohol richtig bemerkbar, dazu frische, fast schon scharfe pflanzliche Noten. Nicht Affe ungeübte Zungen und wohl auch nur ein Ausblick auf das, was man aus dem Hause Chalong Bay in Zukunft noch erwarten könnte. Für mich irgendwo zwischen Clairin, jungen Jamaikanern und umgelagerten Agricoles. Spannend, mit ein paar Jahren mehr auf dem Buckel durchaus interessant!

Great stuff. Floral, grassy notes that suggest cachaca. But this ChalongBay has a character all of its own. The alcohol could be better integrated. Still totally awesome.

A lovely representation of this rum from Thailand, aged in France. The nose is a veritable explosion of aromas: yellow and tropical fruits, lime, lychee, floral and herbaceous notes of eucalyptus and chamomile, very sweet and honeyed sugarcane, hints of pastries... It's a most exuberant profile. On the palate, we find something more concentrated: the vegetal flavors of fermented cane have taken over, with very ripe exotic fruit and pronounced citrus. The oak cask and the occasional hint of spice broaden the taste spectrum. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of decent length, caught between fermented and fruity notes, herbaceous and floral notes on chamomile which makes a comeback, the woodiness of the barrel which intersects with the greediness of the bourbon and the few spices. If the nose was spectacular, the rest of the profile was less explosive, but there's every reason to believe that prolonged aging could yield a nugget in the future.

Un rhum assez étonnant qui peut se rapprocher d’un Mhoba par son côté un peu exubérant. Très fruité et à la fois très floral. C’est pour moi une belle découverte. L’alcool est moyennement intégré mais la finale est plutôt longue.

Very greenhouse/vegetal agricole in the nose. Musty. Tequila/mezcal can be this way too. No smoke though. Some smoke in taste though. A weird musty sweetness. Chamomille tea. Unripe banana (why is unripe not a suggested note?). Reminds me of grogue too. It's not bad but a tad one-dimensional. If you can't stand the greenish notes this is noooot for you. Might make an excellent cocktail.

17.10.2022 Going through samples at home. Notes Very light in colour. Nose Light vegetal, light varnish, sugarcane, mango, orveripe, light olive, berries, faint mint. Palate Medium dry, ligh mint, faint coconut, light salty, light pear, intense, naturally sweet, vanilla, sugarcane. Finish Medium long, intense, medium dry, fruits, sugarcane, vanilla. Extra note. Needs to rest in order to release all its flavours.

Edit: Tried again in TiPunch, therefore corrected upwards a little. All in all, a rum that you can drink. For me, better than expected. Although this type of rum doesn't really appeal to me straight. Nice to have tried, but the rest will end up in a TiPunch as a mixer, as I don't think the alcohol integration is all that successful.
