Fresh-pressed sugarcane, herbs and overripe mango up front, with honey sweetness and a green, almost greenhouse edge. This Thai cane-juice rum at 62% reads like an agricole crossed with young clairin — several tasters caught chamomile, eucalyptus and citrus too. The nose wins people over; the palate turns raw and hot, with the alcohol only half-tamed. Weird in a good way, if you like it wild.

Great stuff. Floral, grassy notes that suggest cachaca. But this ChalongBay has a character all of its own. The alcohol could be better integrated. Still totally awesome.

Edit: Tried again in TiPunch, therefore corrected upwards a little. All in all, a rum that you can drink. For me, better than expected. Although this type of rum doesn't really appeal to me straight. Nice to have tried, but the rest will end up in a TiPunch as a mixer, as I don't think the alcohol integration is all that successful.

8:On the nose, a very round, but different first impression with vegetal sugar cane honey and mushrooms, a bit on herbaceous side, pastry and overripe fruits. On aeration, woody side is shown with baking spices, burnt sugar and confectionery like cookie dough, the cane is mineral, flowery with geranium and musty.Variety of fruits revealed clearly like banana, yellow fruits and citrus. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is actually attractive, unusual, with sugarcane honey and lots of confectionery like pastry, cookie dough, crunchy bread, joined with fermented fruits as banana, litchi, citrus and vegetal notes like mushrooms, roasted and spicy, smoky wood with baking spices.After it settles down, a feeling of tasting mezcal and bourbon appears, the cane becomes herbaceous and flowery with geranium, mineral. 7,9:The finish is quite long, dry, with stronger barrel mark, the cane gets greener with all attributes from palate, so do linger on notes of wood and fruits from before... What a crazy one. Reminds me of Agricole. At least very vegetal on the nose, Agricole and herbs can also be recognized. On the palate also very vegetal and floral, herbs are also present again.

I kind of like Chalong Bay. I discovered the first rum under this name on vacation years ago and have followed the development with interest ever since. Nice guys, great project (e.g. with the mobile sugar juice press to press the sugar cane directly on the small farmers' fields). Very unique floral profile. Not the highest league, but delicious, pure and as a mixed rum.

Very greenhouse/vegetal agricole in the nose. Musty. Tequila/mezcal can be this way too. No smoke though. Some smoke in taste though. A weird musty sweetness. Chamomille tea. Unripe banana (why is unripe not a suggested note?). Reminds me of grogue too. It's not bad but a tad one-dimensional. If you can't stand the greenish notes this is noooot for you. Might make an excellent cocktail.

17.10.2022 Going through samples at home. Notes Very light in colour. Nose Light vegetal, light varnish, sugarcane, mango, orveripe, light olive, berries, faint mint. Palate Medium dry, ligh mint, faint coconut, light salty, light pear, intense, naturally sweet, vanilla, sugarcane. Finish Medium long, intense, medium dry, fruits, sugarcane, vanilla. Extra note. Needs to rest in order to release all its flavours.

Tough stuff. If I didn't know, I would have guessed grappa rather than rum. Alcohol more than present. Quite pungent. But also nice argricole notes. I can't taste the short storage period.

What a beast! Powerful, it already hits the nose when it's still far away on the table. Planty, herbal, freshly pressed sugarcane and also a hint of bourbon. Alcohol is present but within limits. On the palate then: ALARM! Here the alcohol really makes itself felt, along with fresh, almost sharp plant notes. Not for untrained tongues and probably only a preview of what to expect from Chalong Bay in the future. For me somewhere between Clairin, young Jamaicans and re-racked Agricoles. Exciting, with a few more years on its back definitely interesting!

A lovely representation of this rum from Thailand, aged in France. The nose is a veritable explosion of aromas: yellow and tropical fruits, lime, lychee, floral and herbaceous notes of eucalyptus and chamomile, very sweet and honeyed sugarcane, hints of pastries... It's a most exuberant profile. On the palate, we find something more concentrated: the vegetal flavors of fermented cane have taken over, with very ripe exotic fruit and pronounced citrus. The oak cask and the occasional hint of spice broaden the taste spectrum. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of decent length, caught between fermented and fruity notes, herbaceous and floral notes on chamomile which makes a comeback, the woodiness of the barrel which intersects with the greediness of the bourbon and the few spices. If the nose was spectacular, the rest of the profile was less explosive, but there's every reason to believe that prolonged aging could yield a nugget in the future.

What a surprise. Very raw. Very wierd. But so tasty. The notes are of an overripe mango/grapefruit its unique and great. בקבוק איזה בקבוק מוזר. קניה חזקה מבחינתי. מלא בלימון. עשב. מתיקות של ונילת. אשכולית. מנגו מסריח ומותסס. מלח. מאוד מיוחד ומאוד חי. קניה במיוחד שיש מבצעי ענק.

A quite surprising rum that can be compared to a Mhoba by its somewhat exuberant side. Very fruity and at the same time very floral. For me a nice discovery. The alcohol is moderately integrated but the finish is rather long.

Beautiful pale straw color, extremely gourmand nose on sugar, it feels like a ti’punch with an aged rum! Palate quite strong in alcohol but very gourmand on honey. Finish on sugar!
