Quite a good rum from mhoba and the best from 2017. Nose: A lot of solvents, mirabelle plum and overripe fruits with a bit honey. Palate: Apple, figs, caramel, maple, solvents and a lot of wood/roasted notes Finish: Quite long, dried fruits, honey and again a lot of wood…

On the nose still with the typical Mhoba fresh fruitiness, on the palate the aroma spectrum turns bitter and brings spices, cask aromas, mineral and slightly roasted notes to the forefront. I miss the pointed fruit aroma on the palate that often characterizes Mhoba - therefore for me only in the lower mid-range of the Mhoba releases.

Edit: found another leftover sample and unfortunately had to correct it downwards, I already had better in the jar My first Mhoba. I'm thrilled, nice round taste. Unfortunately it's probably already sold out, otherwise I'd buy it straight away. Fully meets my current taste. Alcohol super integrated in my opinion.

Wow, what horny stuff, as they say nowadays! Mhoba is developing more and more from an exotic insider tip to a trendsetter. Who slowly leaves the beaten Jamaican paths like me, finds a perfect companion with Mhoba and especially with this rum. This Mhoba seems by the longer maturation clearly more adult than the (me) previously known rums of this distillery and has thus also the still reminiscent of Jamaica fruity ester horns repelled, it is instead noticeably spicy and herbal, with nicely balanced alcohol and super long, warming finish.The best Mhoba I have tasted so far.

Alcohol perfectly integrated, very intense after salt-caramel candies, dried fruits and some milk chocolate. On the nose it has something cardboard-like and cinnamony... A little reminiscent of twix bars or Toffifee, but here too the "cardboard box" note comes through intensively together with salty popcorn. Very tasty!

At first, sour fruits and esters dominate. Later the rum opens up and it results in a very balanced picture together with honey and vanilla. Unfortunately, I miss a bit of chocolate on the nose, but the finish is nice and long. Alcohol is perfectly integrated and very varied on nose, palate, and finish. Very exciting! With five years of aging, also one of the oldest Mhoba rums that have existed so far.

To the characteristic funk and effervescence comes a great spice from the barrel aging in addition. Seems more "adult" than its quite "cheeky" predecessors. Solvent, caramel, chocolate, a slight saltiness play harmoniously together - excellent MHOBA! Am very curious what the distillery will deliver in the future. I am in any case full of anticipation!

9,1:On the nose, the first impression we get estery overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, as a banana is more unripe, there are also an apple, mirabelle plum and dried figs, as solvents don't overpower.A wood is roasted, spicy with caramel, vanilla. On aeration, citrus is out, as a cane is honeyed, vegetal with grass, tea.We could feel that the rum on sweet side, the wood toasted also.Inspite of intense notes, are they round and balanced. 9:On the palate, the attack is sweet and fruity, on low esters, with overripe pineapple, dried figs and banana, as the wood is roasted with caramel, creamy with cream toffee, spicy with vanilla, allspice....Very round, delicious.The cane is vegetal with herbal and grassy notes, dark with licorice. 9:The finish is long, dry, a bit metallic, the wood still roasted and now with new notes like pastry, perhaps brioche, baked apple, chocolate, there are a lot of delicious fruits like dried figs, raisins, dried papaya, dried apricots and sour cherry, as the cane sweet, still with honey, vegetal, earthy.

The Mhoba is exactly what I expected. I was already thrilled by the 2017 Velier!And this one joins seamlessly... overall a little more pleasing and softer, despite the almost 61%!In the nose a beguiling fruity experience of overripe pear and mirabelle, joined by funky solvent! After some time in the glass, it mellows and caramel slowly gains the upper hand.On the palate initially heavy short sweetness of maple syrup, creamy velvety it spreads. After the sweetness I taste fig (fresh and dried) before salty allspice and chocolate follow! The finish is roasted chestnut!The medium length finish is initially introduced by some tropical fruit before the herbal side takes over and lingers!All the older 2017 (Plastic/HV) and now the Antipodes are real winners for me! From this with pleasure mehr👍🏻

A Mhoba that is more about finesse and balance than its predecessors. The nose presents a beautiful structure: fermented notes of cream, butter, and yogurt blend with medicinal notes of solvents and glue, floral notes, and mushrooms for a quirky side, while exotic fruits and apple bring freshness. Spices and wood add depth. You find notes of sugarcane, honey, and candied fruits that also bring a lot of sweetness. This balance is again found on the palate. Very round and creamy, you discern honeyed notes, sugarcane, and exotic fruits before moving on to spices, chocolate for indulgence, and a touch of esters and rubber for the empyreumatic side. The alcohol is superbly well integrated. A profile in full control. The finish is also very successful. It returns to chocolate, caramel, honey, and sugarcane. Spices enhance the woodiness, with added smoky and medicinal notes. A breeze of freshness on greenery brings a little extra to this long finish. One of the most accomplished Mhobas, less extreme, more subtle, delicate, and complex. Looking forward to seeing what the older profiles from the distillery will give in the coming years.

Currently, therefore, the oldest bottled Mhoba (well, there will be from now on every year an oldest 😅), moreover, my first with finish, red wine. Am curious, Mhoba with its very own flavor profile yet belongs to my favorite rums...Nose: unmistakable! Strong, intense, spicy-fruity and neat heavy glue and clear esters. It is tartly sweet with hints of passion fruit or gooseberry and honey. The high ABV gives it a freshness and spiciness that, along with the ester notes, remind me of hot peppers pickled in vinegar. Then out the back comes the wood with a slight toasty note. I also actually think I detect a bit of dry, acidic red wine. Very nice. 89 Palate: powerful and very intense here as well. Quite astringent at the start, then opens up broadly, salty, metallic and peppery going over bitter lemon zest to sour cherry and gooseberry. All accompanied and backed by glue. In the back it remains acidic, becomes woodier and has something of mocha, maybe there is some iodine. Dry, metallic woody finish without losing the sour cherry. I like it a lot too. 89As it ages, a Mhoba definitely wins. The red wine finish was not immediately apparent to me on the palate and thus not really necessary?! But more of it, please!

would have to compare the again directly with the HV or the FAQ Plastic to see if the extra year of aging has brought much. From the notes, I would say the LMDW tends more to the FAQ with the spices, Richting anise cookies. I also make out an apple cider vinegar note in the LMDW as in the HV, but more subtle. Maybe that's what the extra year in the barrel brought then. Balanced without losing its edges. On the palate, the journey goes in the direction of salted caramel chocolate.

Very strong Mhoba bottling. Great nose, alcohol perfectly integrated. Really nice creamy/oily and just a harmonious mix of fruit, caramel and a bit of salt. For me so far the best Mhoba bottling.

To end the day there's a really awesome Mhoba. Truly a great piece. On the nose mostly solvent, but also some vanilla. On the palate then intense and strong, caramel, wood and spices are recognizable.

A great rum. Generally an incredibly amazing distillery. Strong funk notes immediately fill the nose. On the palate then comes creamy chocolate and salted caramel. Then a long, strong finish, slightly sweet and sour.

Once this one has rested for a good while it's a very good release. Fruity and warm to the palate with an oily touch. The caramel and chocolate is even stronger in the empty glass after a while. Looking forward to more Mhoba tastings.

This is now the second time I've tried this Mhoba. The first time it blew me away, in the 85-90 league, now still very tasty but no longer so outstanding. Not meant negatively. It is the Mhoba profile that I really like, but with fewer edges. Mhoba for beginners :-) Addendum, “Small” Mhoba Cross-Tasting 2025: Compared to 10 other Mhoba releases, the impression is confirmed. Lacking, but without character.

A good Mhoba but extremely powerful in alcohol. I'm quite unsettled because in my opinion it hasn't opened up enough yet, and even after 3 hours of aeration of the glass it's too powerful...EDIT: after a little aeration it's otherwise better!

Alcohol perfectly integrated, very intense with salt-caramel candies, dried fruits and some milk chocolate. On the nose it has something cardboard-like and cinnamon... One of the best mhoba tried so far. Funky with rotten tropical fruits (banana), estery and gluey but also with a sweet side with caramel and vanilla. Crazy bit still really balanced and enjoyable, which is rather uncommon for this south african rum

Interesting. There is a salted butter caramel base but with a tangy fruity touch like raspberry vinegar. The alcohol is well integrated. The intensity and length in the mouth are controlled. Makes you want to discover the future old Mhoba :)

The Mhoba LMDW Antipodes doesn't have that slightly annoying garlic/truffle oil aroma like Mhoba French Cask and Strand 101. Instead, I find a light fruit note from the red wine cask. On the palate the Antipodes is really very round, besides caramel and the typical steppe grass aroma I also find the red fruits again. A very round and easy-drinking thing, simply delicious and good to drink. Medium-long finish, the steppe grass remains and very faintly the red fruits.

Just the box and the label made of bamboo (?) alone deserve recognition and respect. Nose: funky, the alcohol stings the nose, intense and powerful Palate: you can tell my bottle has been open for a while, the rum comes across quite smooth, but the typical Mhoba markers are still recognizable Finish: again intense, dry but not bitter Very good rum, but not outstanding compared to other Mhoba bottlings

I liked it much better than the Plastic from Velier. The Velier had too much fermented yoghurt on the nose. This bottling is well-balanced and there are nice barrel notes alongside the eagle owl. The palate is also much more balanced. I like it very much. Thank you for letting me try it. Rating with memory protocol.

Nose: candied pineapple with some tanginess, some pep. A bit of passion fruit/guava. It's very exotic fruity. An iodized note behind it. On the palate: the fruits are still present, very lively but with a slightly bitter chocolate/woody side that calms the liveliness compared to the nose. Some solvent too. After reading, maple syrup is also well present. Finish: a beautiful mix of fruit / bitterness of wood / solvent.

Mmm funky! Very interesting mix of sweet and salty bonbons. Fresh green apples contrasting with very bold roasted notes. It’s definitely intriguing and not an easy sipper. Intense, i like it :)
