Thompson Bros. T.D.L Trinidad Rum 2008
The mint is the thing nobody warns you about — it runs right through this TDL, from nose to finish, sitting next to woody spice, dried fruit and a smoky, almost bacon-like meatiness. Bottled at 60.5% but the heat stays tucked in. A few tasters found it a touch smooth or one-sided, wishing something pushed back against all that menthol.
- Distinct mint note
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Smoky dark fruit

How does Thompson Bros. T.D.L Trinidad Rum 2008 taste?
Aggregated from 35 community reviews.
Minty, woody, spicy cask-strength Trinidad Most tasters land around solid: minty, spicy, woody TDL with dark fruit and smoke. The catch a couple noted — the menthol dominates and lacks a counterweight, so it reads a bit smooth.

It's exciting how the minty notes run through the various post-2000s TDL vintages. There are also spices, wood, marzipan sweetness and some fruit and tea. What is striking here is how strongly the mint aromas benefit from the influences of longer maturation. The mint and menthol aromas are still very dominant here, and I feel that the flavor counterpart at eye level is somewhat lacking. The rating is therefore not quite on the same level as other TDLs of this era.

Intense, woody and spicy T.DL. Tastes very good to me
Review by Filip Šikula

Great indie Scottisch bottler. With a very affordable line of Whisky and Rum releases. Great bar. Friendly people. TDL. Another distillery that released varied, sometimes dirty, but always fruity rums...when being released by the indies. This one starts of very smoky, burnt, thick, woody. A dirty layer over dries cherries. At least in the nose. Taste: smoky still, but gets less over time. There are the famous TDL berries. Red fruits. Medloul Dates. A bit dirty. A bit fresh. A whiff of menthol. Pretty classic modern TDL.

A big improvement from the 502 TDL from Thompson bros. A generous and inviting nose, all sweet brown sugar and dried fruits with an edge of alcohol, good and wel put together. The mouth leads on with confidence, maggi and cinnamon apple on the front, moving to a more smokey and sweet middle with a meaty bacon element. It’s spicy but not over powering and works well. The finish is more spicy, with pepper and more bacon alongside a lingering and warm finish. All in a solid and impressive TDL rum, benefiting from the tropical aging. Worth a sample if you can find one

The profile is straight and even mild, but definitely not what you would expect from TDL
