Duncan Taylor Single Cask Rum 2002
"Rather light" is how one taster summed it up, and a few others agree the body runs thin. But there's a lot to like in the glass: solvent-y glue on the nose, honey sweetness, plus herbs, sugarcane and grass that lean almost French in style. Mint, licorice and pepper run through it, with a mildly bitter, herbal finish.
- Honey sweetness
- Herbal, minty notes
- French-style character

How does Duncan Taylor Single Cask Rum 2002 taste?
Aggregated from 24 community reviews.
Herbal, honey-and-licorice St. Lucia, on the light side Most find this a well-made Saint Lucia with honey, herbs and licorice, leaning to the French side. The recurring catch: it drinks lighter and thinner than its 52.6% suggests, and could use more fruit.

13th day in the Christmas calendar. Blind! Easy to assign with the tip on Memorial Day on 12/13: Saint Lucia. But was also clear in taste. Nose: fruity-spicy and spicy with iodine, solvent and pepper. But also lemony-fresh with a touch of tropical fruit, vlt. papaya. Then slight sweetness of honey and lemon marmalade. Out the back anise and mint and wood and some leather. Palate: bitter-hot-salty. Intense, sweet licorice. Nutmeg, clove and that mint again. Hints of grapefruit at the back. In the finish this remains and green tea and licorice join in.

Sehr guter Lucia! Idealerweise könnte er etwas fruchtiger sein

12/03/25: tasted @ open bottle sale TasTToe. I love rum from Saint Lucia. Every time I nose it, I fall in love again. I got fresh, herbal, honey notes. This one was rather on the light, thin side but still a good rum.

Rather light.

Clearly a 2002 on the nose, as it is much closer to the CDI St. Lucia 2002 than the other two bottlings - Blackadder and Renegade 1999 from the crosstasting. Here, too, the glue is more present than in the '99s, but the honey is more dominant than in the CDI. A beautiful nose! The mouth is flooded with a powerful honey sweetness - absolutely no salt to be found, but a similarity to the French style. Herbs, sugar cane and grass can also be found here. The finish is medium long, herbal and somewhat bitter. 81 points

"It doesn't have everything you might want and look for in a rum. It isn't blockbuster. Decent well crafted rum but nothing to get too excited about. Better than average for sure but you can find better 11 Year Old St Lucia rums on the market. That said I will..."Read full review →
