The whisky cask finish is the first thing you notice — several tasters get peated, smoky notes before the classic Versailles wood, licorice and anise come through. Another great release from Rum Nation and I think the price matches what you get. Wonderful flowery nose and the palate is nice and dry and the wood hasn't taken over the prrofile. The finish is long, dry and warm with wood and tea. The empty glass releases even more and stronger flavours.

A well-crafted Versailles finished in whisky barrels. The nose is most atypical, at once whisky, earthy, iodized and mentholated, but also aromatic herbs (thyme) and spices typical of rums distilled in the Versailles still (licorice, anise) with a hint of exotic fruit. It's remarkably well-constructed, with no one flavor overpowering the others. The attack on the palate is equally fragrant and pleasant. Peaty whisky meets thyme, tea, tobacco, flowers, citrus and a peppery woodiness spread over a leathery background. Both DNAs are present, and the alchemy works well. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, slightly shorter than expected, is a little drier, carried by tea, dried fruit, spicy wood and smoky whisky. A fine example of bottling with a whisky finish, original, pleasant and sure to delight lovers of both spirits.

This is one of my few rums with a whisky finish, but a really good one. The nose is very complex and exciting. I have spices, wood, citrus notes, iodine, herbs and floral aromas. Then come whisky, thyme, something earthy, licorice and tropical fruits. On the palate it is extremely complex and sweet at the start. Oriental spices, honey, wood, citrus fruits, leather, tobacco and whisky make the beginning. Then follow chocolate, tropical fruits, pepper and tea, which forms the transition to floral, earthy and peaty aromas. Everything is accompanied by beeswax. The long finish is as complex as nose and palate and offers spices, wood, molasses, honey, leather, roasted notes and dried fruits. The finish is again whisky with tea and floral notes, which also brings hints of beeswax. This Guyana rum is awesome anyway, but with the whisky finish the flavor diversity is greatly expanded. A clear recommendation to everyone!

A beautiful Versailles, whose restrained but pleasant aroma does not prepare you for the intense spectacle in the mouth with its peppery intermezzo. According to the aromas, the finishing barrels had still been properly moistened with whisky, which in my opinion harmonizes well with the rum.

I didn’t take any notes at the Rhum Fest so a more detailed review will follow as soon as I get the chance to sample this rum again in a better context. The Whisky finish keeps this one from scoring higher.

Floral, spicy, round aroma, with a hint of soap. After sipping, the mouth is filled with an earthy taste with a metallic hint. A floral sensation with a hint of soap gradually develops. The finish is long, warm and evokes almonds.

There's something going on in the glass. Already on the nose super complex with Guyana-typical beeswax notes, lots of fruits, flowers and spices. Also a medicinal funkiness that reminds of iodine always plays along. On the palate even more roasted with licorice, dark honey and tropical fruits. The variety of aromas seems endless. Extremely long and intense finish with honey, spices, Earl Grey and iodine. A groundbreaking distillate was aged 18 years in a whisky cask and bottled at a well integrated 59%.

The first sip is too much whiskey. Wait, warm it in your hand and slowly the anise/olive taste of Guyana comes out. Actually, I can't do much with the "pencil" taste description, but here you kind of notice "chewing on a pencil." The taste develops. Give it time. Still, the whiskey sharpness remains. Too bad. With 54 months in whisky cask, it's actually not a "finishing" but a double maturation.
