Rum Nation Port Mourant Small Batch Rare Rums 2010

One taster called it a Port Mourant that "ne présente pas les défauts habituels" of the still — meaning it skips the usual heavy edges. Expect summer fruit cocktail (melon, cherry, grape), roasted hazelnut and a clear Sherry wine touch, then a spicy, tannic, dry finish. A couple find it too dry and would want more cask. The 59% sits well-integrated.

Tasted at Sanctus Spiritus ‘24, so my review remains rather concise. On the nose the sherry finish has had a positive influence on the PM profile, supplementing the dry, buttery and vanilla sugar aromas with sweet cherry and roasted nuts. The palate is rich in tannins, and much spicier than the average PM. It’s still dry, woody and buttered, but liberally seasoned with pepper and salt. From nose to finish there’s a looming presence of flax seed, which intricately stimulates a musty and lightly flowery theme. The finish is medium in length and coats the mouth in a white chocolate sensation with salted butter, vanilla sugar and marzipan.

This time I have to mention that I am not a complete fan of Guyana in the first place and I would like to add in the second breath that I like this one very much and I would also like to highlight the integration of alcohol into the taste. In the aroma there are floral and fruity notes along with wood. In the taste then the same, the finish is just right, a dry finish accompanied by notes of wood and earthiness. In the aroma and in the taste, the earthiness also appears when it rests for a while in the glass

A relatively young, well-crafted Port Mourant, with none of the usual shortcomings of its very special still. The nose opens with exotic fruits and coconut, before moving on to earthier, floral aromas. The profile continues with an indulgent spicy bouquet (vanilla, cinnamon, baked apple), rounded out by roasted hazelnuts and roasted notes. A very attractive olfactory profile. There's a strong spicy concentration on the palate: aniseed, licorice, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla rub shoulders with wood, floral notes and exotic fruits, raisins and tannins. The fatty texture on the palate reinforces the impression of an opulent, gourmet rum. The alcohol is well integrated into this well-structured whole. The finish, of decent length, is reminiscent of Port Mourant, with its bitterness, floral and herbaceous notes, woody, spicy and delicate fruity aromas. A fine bottling that doesn't fall into the trap of other Port Mourants, and at a reasonable price.

Lovely fragrance of fresh, juicy summer fruit cocktail, melon, cherry and grape. Slightly nutty-woody, but not really roasted or toasted - it's delicate and subtle. Like the intensity of the color. On the palate, despite the 59%, the sweetness is pleasant and the alcohol well integrated. The cocktail of fresh fruit is again present, with a slightly stronger pronunciation of the woody aspect that doesn't overpower the fruit. It's the finish that leaves a bit more bitterness and a drawn-out tannic and bitter sensation, with a taste closer to the fruit stone or pips, as when you've bitten into the fruit a little too much and chewed the pips or stone. A fine product, difficult for me to rate because I can't find any fault with it, but it's hard for me to fall in love with it.

This is a really nice Port Mourant especially when looking at the price tag. Fruity and light wood on the profile with a nice touch of licorice. The cask finish is present in the profile and I think it benefitted the overall result. ABV is pretty well integrated and once aerated it is barely there.

Blid smag I starten. Efterfulgt af en lang tør træet eftersmag. Den holder de 59.8% flot. Det virker til at have været en fornuftigt valg at lager den på sherry falde for at balancere den tørre afslutning.
