Glue, varnish and overripe tropical fruit come barrelling out of the glass — full Hampden ester wildness. Then the oloroso octave finish steers it somewhere unusual: a drier, root-and-vegetable turn on the palate, with cherry, faint chocolate and one taster's "old, dusty cellar" note on the long finish. At 63.7% it's hot and needs a drop of water. An intense, experimental Hampden that mostly lands.

I can't understand how you have to give a 2007 such a finish. It's actually a really good vintage in itself. For me, the sherry influence is definitely too clear and ends in a musty old cellar vault taste. Not at all my profile of what I imagine. It also reminds me of cardboard boxes that have been left to rot in a damp cellar for years.

The finish gives the rum a certain direction, especially on the palate, for me away from the HD fruit basket (which dominates the nose), towards a drier, rooty or vegetable-like impression, especially towards the back. I've never experienced it like this before. I particularly like - and this is really a unique selling point among my previous tastings - the finish, which in my imagination takes me to an old, dusty barrel cellar where potatoes are perhaps also stored over the winter. Conclusion: Yes, a successful experiment, although not outstanding. Recognition effect definitely present, but not an all-time favorite. Interesting rum.

#4691 06.04.2024 Relaxing at home with a few good rums. Nose Wood, light roasted, ester, fruity, light glue, sherry, light citrus. Palate Wood, faint smoke, ester, glue, cherry, fruity, faint leather, faint chocolate. Finish Long and warm, wood, ester, fruity, light chocolate. The empty glass has stronger chocolate notes as well as herbs. Pretty good finish where the sherry does not dominate.

Very intense Hampden. Full nose of fruit and intense esters. On the palate initially a fruity wildness as we are used to from the C<>H brand, but later something develops that is very unusual but for me unnecessarily disturbing.

Very intense Hampden with Sherry finish. The oloroso finish brings an acidity that personally bothers me, which doesn't harmonize well with the very intense esters, plus some roasted sesame oil and overripe fermented fruit.. As a high ester fan, you can do it, but it doesn't fully convince me. Without the finish, this could have been a great Hampden; for me, it was rather "worsened" here...

Color dark amber. Aroma very intense esters, lacquer, glue, cured meat, tropical wood. Taste esters, lacquer, glue, tropical fruit, a bit musty. Finish long ripe banana, pineapple.
