Odd surprise here: several tasters keep landing on pure strawberry over time, alongside the roasted coconut, banana and toasted almond you'd expect from a Plantation blend. There's a whisper of smoke from the black cask, but the sweetness runs the show and the body stays thin. Pleasant and easy, if a little forgettable once the sugar fades.

My current favorite price/performance around 30€. For an evening drink with friends who are not into single cask rums or have no experience with rums. On the palate sweeter, fruity, pleasant on the tongue. I would have expected more 'smoke' and a fuller taste with a longer finish, but for the money it will find its buyers.

#4094 This release also has a bit of smoke on it as its predecessors. Lightly fruity with spices but generally thin. Unfortunately watered down too much in my mind. Price to quality is OK. Probably good in a mixer.

Barbados and Cuba combine to form this inexpensive Plantation. We find the traditional notes of coconut and banana, but also sweet spices, chocolate, caramel, a few roasted notes and dried fruit. A classic profile, without a doubt. The attack on the palate is soft, with a syrupy texture that accentuates the greediness. Apart from caramel, coconut and banana, it's mainly the smoky notes that stand out on the palate. The profile is sweet but dark, with toast, almond and toasted hazelnut. A slight touch of alcohol also makes itself felt. The finish, of decent length, follows in the footsteps of the palate, with smoky, tonka-bean notes. The dilution of the alcohol is noticeable, resulting in a rather dull aftertaste. A simple rum that will delight neophytes at an equally gentle price.

Oops, where is Cuba in the nose here? Actually quite little of it in the smell, instead a lot of fruity Barbados. With some time and warmth it gets more body, and the fruit becomes lighter – and strawberry actually plays a role. Little smoke for 'Black Cask'. On the palate then quite sweet. No big outliers in taste. But also here – strawberry. I don't know exactly what happens in the blend, but it seems that Cuban notes lean exactly towards fruity. Exciting in terms of aroma. The special finish gets stronger the more air it gets. Towards the back then furry, dry and smoky on the sides of the tongue – this typical 'bite' without becoming unpleasant.

The typical roasted coconut of many Plantation rums paired with banana and dunder funk which I normally expect from a Jamaican. Smells more fruity,but tastes more nutty. The finish is short and almost not existent. Payed 26€, which I think is fair. Edit: After a few weeks, I only get pure strawberry when smelling it.

Read full review ›This rum has a rather simple flavor profile, but it's easy to drink and appreciated even by those not used to drinking rum. Typical Barbados sweetness mixes with a light and drier Cuban rum. My wife's favorite rum :-) PS: We already have the new 2023 version.
