Sip this one neat and give it time — it opens slowly. Expect pineapple, glue and ester over a surprisingly big bourbon-cask layer of vanilla, honey and marzipan. Several tasters called it a smoother, tamer Hampden than usual, "recht entspannt" and tropical rather than a full ester bomb. At 62% the alcohol pushes through, and a faint bitter note on the finish bothered a few.

Another HLCF from Velier... but from 2016. Overall, this one seems a bit more relaxed and smooth, but also more boring. None of the aromas particularly stand out... they all remain rather muted or restrained. Something is missing for me

At first, the bottling seems a bit wild and alcoholic on the nose. Over time, the aggressive nose settles. In the mouth, it is also not quite as balanced as I imagine. I find a slight bitter and sour note disturbing in the finish. Good, but not very good.

I really like these HLCFs. This one as always very smooth. Alcohol very strong at the end. Nice round tropical Hampden. Price unfortunately high, but that is nothing new.

On the nose quite medicinal, alcoholic and virgin oak heavy, behind that hides discreet gingerbread and mirabelle and other stone fruits. Aromatically it's clear what's going on: bourbon cask but what a cask! Surprisingly little of the Hampden remains to be tasted, I'd be curious what kind of fresh grenade bourbon cask was used here? Sesame, honeycomb, beeswax, virgin oak and vanilla. Basically a very tasty Hampden rum for the US market but the bourbon unfortunately almost steals the show from the Hampden here! 😄 On the other hand, in the finish this over awesome sesame banana honey note spreads that I really celebrate! 😄 crazy release!

Surprisingly mild for a tropical aged HLCF. The fresh tropical fruits remain, but get a spicy counterpart from peppery baking spices and subtle wood, plus nice residual sweetness that, alongside fruit sweetness, reminds of marzipan. Pleasant, but in my opinion a comparatively weak HV-Hampden release that doesn’t come close to the first HLCF from 2010.

#5478 12.07.2025 Late tasting with a set of friends and I'm always happy when we meet up. Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, light wood, overripe, light pineapple, ester, light floral, light earthy. Palate Medium intense, ester, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, banana, light cherry, spice, light floral, light anise. Finish Long and warm, light oily, light spicy, ester, banana, light anise, light cherry. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, light citrus, faint smoke, light herbs, licorice.

On the nose tropical fruits, marzipan, a bit of olive, esters, some glue, slightly buttery, plus fermented/sour. On the palate, however, too little happens for me. Some esters, floral notes, little fruit, some vanilla, slightly astringent. ABV is well integrated.

Was very happy to have snagged this special bottling for New York. Overall a quite relaxed Hampden with typical aroma profile. But overall I expected a bit more from it. Way too expensive for the price, there are equally great HLCFs for much less money. Definitely needs time to unfold the aromas.

Beautiful Hampden nose. Pineapple-y with that certain ester note. I really like the nose. On the palate then a certain sharpness, but still within limits. I also get marzipan. Nice finish... It lingers a long time. Confirmed in the night tasting.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Typical Hampden notes: lacquer, some esters, glue, pineapple, fermented fruits. Alcohol could be better integrated, you can simply notice the comparatively young age here. Also, a slight bitterness spreads in the finish, which is disturbing. Accordingly, in my view, no higher rating is possible.
