Plantation Black Cask Barbados & Jamaica

Anyone who likes a Plantation blend that leans dry rather than sugary will find their footing here. It's a Barbados-Jamaica mix: smoky Jamaican notes up front, some mango and pear fruit behind, then a wall of dark spice, cinnamon heat and dry oak. Body runs on the thin side, and one taster called it "nicht so süß" — drier than most Plantations, with a sharp sweet-to-dry contrast.

Smoky Jamaica on the nose, Barbados remains relatively discreetly fruity behind it. Spicy and woody. Briefly quite sweet on the palate, then immediately woody and quite dry. A very strong contrast. This contrast generally runs through the entire, comparatively thin rum. Fruity with mango, peach and pear meets quite a lot of dark spice, cinnamony spiciness and very dry, woody notes. The dark barrel then comes through fully in the finish, together with a little funk. However, it tends to stick to the spice rather than overripe fruit. I like the series, but I also understand anyone who doesn't like this contrast at all.

Looking at the price tag you get what you pay for. Lightly fruity with spices and roasted wood.

Planteray

Avg Rating 7.5/10 over 760 Rums

Planteray is the rum range Maison Ferrand renamed from Plantation in 2024. It is double-aged: distilled in the Caribbean, largely on Barbados at the historic West Indies Rum Distillery, then finished in France in ex-cognac casks, which gives the house style its rounded, polished character. Built by Alexandre Gabriel to make fine rum approachable, it runs from the flagship XO 20th Anniversary to a deep tail of high-ester and single-cask bottlings.
