"You get what it says on the label" is how one member put it — a light Puerto Rican column rum with an Oloroso sherry finish that reads as raisins, vanilla, caramel and a touch of chocolate. The sherry sits nicely in the background, not too dominant, not too thin. A little spice and mild bite, pleasantly sweet without being sugary. Round and very drinkable.

Thankfully got a sample bottled by a friend and the rum looks good! Absolute price-performance hit. Nice sherry and chocolate notes, with various fruits, wood and caramel. On the mouth with 41% of course no top performer, but still can hold its own. Nice!

The Don Q from the sherry cask is a decent rum. Nice nose, vanilla and caramel mainly, but also some wood. On the palate there is also a pleasant armchair of vanilla, caramel and honey. You can also taste the sherry. Thumbs up.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The Don Q is not strong on the nose. There are light fruit notes, some sweetness, and caramel. Light wood notes and very subtle spice accompany it. On the palate, the rum offers a very precise profile with light fruit, raisins, vanilla, and oak. The sherry notes give a natural sweetness but are not intrusive. The finish is medium-length with classic spicy cask notes and also some sharpness. The Don Q is a solid rum that gets a lot right. It lacks a bit of a kick and is a bit too tame. But it does at least just as many things right and tastes very good to me. It was my number 2 in the Wagemut tasting. I will definitely try the Single Barrel 2009 in Cask Strength. It's very attractive at about 45 euros.

A little more of a bite at the end, but the flavor was nice, and there was a hint of sherry from the barrel. Mixed was very smooth.

Here you get what it says. An honest light Puerto Rican with sherry finish. The fun on the palate with the right mix of fruit and spice, some spiciness with it. Very drinkable 🥃

Read full review ›I first encountered this rum in Brno at Air café during the presentation of this brand. Even then, I was quite intrigued by Don Q products. The rum is pleasant both in aroma and taste, and that's without any added artificial additives.
