TCRL Grays Mauritius 2017

If you want more spirit than barrel, this young Mauritian column-still hits the spot. The nose leans syrupy and bright — yellow fruit, butterscotch, cinnamon — and the palate fills out with honeycomb, vanilla, ginger and a peppery kick. At 50% the wood stays light, occasionally tannic neat, and a splash of water pulls out more cinnamon. One taster even caught peanut butter as it opened up.

Sweet, fruity, some vanilla, honey, and almond notes. Medium finish with a hint of meringue. Extremely pleasant.

For a 3-year-old, it's really impressive! It's round, fresh and funky.

Neat is quite nice and gives cane sugar, butterscotch, flan, syrup, cinnamon, alcohol, black pepper, with hints of vanilla and raw almond. Appealing nose and good sipper. The wood is fairly light but occasionally tannic, especially neat. Fills the mouth nicely, even with a splash of water, which brings out a bit of cinnamon and ginger. Finish is medium-long and quite spicy. En daiquiri enhances the honey and almond but obscures a good deal of spice. I prefer it sipped. Still, it's a good value, especially if you're looking for more spirit than barrel.

First Mauritian rum and I’m thrilled! Lovely bright lemony nose with a more robust pallet of papaya, butterscotch, slight oak. As it sits - strange but welcoming peanut butter.

Mauritius

Avg Rating 7.6/10 over 490 Rums

Mauritius is the rum island of the Indian Ocean, a sugarcane country that makes it all: smooth aged molasses rum, fresh-juice agricole, and the spiced and fruit-steeped rhum arrange that locals drink. That range across three rum styles makes it one of the most varied origins in rum, still flying under the radar of most drinkers.
