Better than expected, really like it! Great value for money, especially compared to current and completely overpriced alternatives in this category.

Nose: ahh, super fruity and if you do not know it, you notice nothing of whiskey finish. Because of the strong dilution, you can smell deep into the glass without the alcohol pinching. The palate reflects the impressions of the nose almost 1:1. Here I notice the influence of the whiskey finish more clearly. Finish is long and harmonizes with nose and palate. A very good bottling. I would have liked this rum but less or not diluted Tasted - that would certainly be a whole other house number!

A great Fiji with rough edges. A very successful Fiji. I Like

Fruity, almost sweet Fiji rum, which is somewhat curbed by finishes in ex-whisky barrels. The smoky flavors of the French whiskey leave a more coherent feeling than the rarely successful Islay whiskey finishes. Rum is a chameleon and each day ends with different results. Probably should be tasted again in a few months, it seems to react strongly with oxygen.

This review is from my second tasting and it’s a little different than the first. Overall I like it better than my first taste. Spirits are funny like that. Enjoyably so. Nose is like many describe. Intense at the start, beginning with tropical fruit and banana. There’s a hint of smoke. (I seem to be smelling banana more and more with rums lately. Palate evolving I suppose) This is complex. I can detect the whisky influence for sure. The whisky notes become more assertive as it sits. Flavour is like it smells. Big ripe tropical fruit at the start with a beautiful transition to a nuanced nutty cereal type vibe that seesaws back and forth with the fruit again. The single malt really comes through after exhaling. I have read several reviews that refer to this as tasting diluted but that is not my personal impression. The finish is medium and on the dry side. It’s a more whisky like ending than rum. There’s a bit of a pleasant hum in my mouth as the rum dissipates with various barrel impressions.

Very balanced nose. In my opinion, coconut and beautifully sweet. The taste is clearly smoky and reminiscent of whiskey. A very aromatic palate. Strong finish in wood and whiskey ... medium long.

A very relaxed, but nevertheless good and complex rum due to the reduction!

Fiji 2001 is a promise of a good rum, not infrequently an excellent rum. Plantation has an exclusive pre-purchase deal with South Pacific and so there was reason to believe that Plantation offers here great for little money. Long story short: unfortunately, no. The rum is tame despite an estercount in the Wedderburn range. The typical herbal Fiji markers, which actually harmonize well with whiskey, can hardly unfold. Instead, there is a vanilla sweetness familiar from the 2004s. In the mouth, the whiskey is then very present and partly covers the actual flavors. As is so often the case, Plantation has probably not done very good raw material any favors with the finish and the dilution. This Fiji 2001 nevertheless remains a good rum.

Tasted the Turicum bottling. Good nice bouquet (toasty, burnt notes). Finish lasts well: Mixture of whiskey and rum. Good complexity and good PLV. But far from other 2001 Fiji vintages. Imagine if it had more volume 🙄although Cask Strength is indicated. Somehow associations of a marinated Asian chicken skewer from the charcoal grill.

2001 Fiji, which is still the best fiji year, tropical aged for 19 years. What can went wrong? So a finish could mess it up. And yes, it is a Plantation, so I had expected it will be a mess. But a 2001 Fiji, i had to buy - no way out. There is not much nose but not bad either. Taste is flat, mostly you get the finish, but not in a complex way. A rather simple rum. Far away from TRC 2001, SBS 2009 or TCL 2014. Plantation should be sentenced for that, if you think about the other Fijis from 2001. But if you like an easy sipper sweet Whisky with some rummy taste, it will do it.

The nose is interesting, but the rest is too marked by whisky, losing the fun of Fiji, and the finish is far too short. It's still pleasant and easy to drink, but I'm only moderately enthusiastic.

Very advanced rum. Just I am probably not on that level yet...
