Big green olive right up front — it takes over the glass, brined and savoury, before pineapple, passion fruit and lime push through underneath. This is Paranubes from cana morada, distilled from cane juice at 54.4%, so it drinks like a Mexican cousin of agricole with a smoky, almost mezcal edge. Several members reach for it in a daiquiri, where the character really lands.

Really tasty with pineapple, fresh passion fruit and lime and a little bacon, as well as smoked green poblano chilies! It cuts an incredibly good figure in a daiquiri. I think I like it a lot better than the "normal" paranube and it's a little less rough and smoky. For me an absolute bank in the daiquiri, as if you had added some mezcal. 🤤 I'm glad I bought a bottle! More than fair for 40€!

Pub The Rumah Rotterdam April 2026. A really intensely vegetal rum. It's really very vegetal and floral, you can especially notice a lot of olive here. But it's definitely a very nice rum :-)

#6721 Running a few extra samplex while watching the Japanese TV series "Vivant" on Max. A pretty surprising bottle with a nice price tag on top. The profile is salty and fruity with vegerables and light olive and spices.

Olive overpowers the rest. Interesting, reminds me of some unaged Savannas that I recently sampled. Not really what I like.

A Mexican agricole variant. Produced from Cana Morada. Tasted in comparison to RX709, the standard Paranubes. That one is made from Cana Dura, Negra, and Criollo. The nose impression is intense. I guess the vast majority won't like it. But I do. Fat green olive that dominates everything. On the palate, then more complex. Nice sugarcane sweetness, fruity aromas, more vegetal notes. The 54.4% are noticeable but all within limits. The finish is medium length with the same notes. It has something – but beware, it's a category you either love or really can't stand. At a bottle price under 40 euros, a no-brainer. The regular Paranubes compared to this is toned down by a notch. Probably appeals to more people, but I give the Morada a significantly higher rating. Finally tried it in a daiquiri – top-notch, adds character and flavor.

On the nose ripe black cherry, melon, lychee, also solvent and some vinegar and smokiness. The palate is warm and enveloping with umami mixed with the fruit ripenings perceived on the nose, also carob and dates. In the empty glass smoked herring, peppers and an unusual floral/fruity scent that I cannot define. Very strange and distinctive, unique, as is the Morada cane used

wooooow, what a great rum! full-bodied, juicy, like standing inside a earth-floor warehouse full of overripe bananas, juicy melons and a good tank of olive brine and cut grass. 54,5 abv, you say? I don’t feel those.

Unfortunately, they only have unaged and very young rums. But it's amazing how good they are, the potential is definitely there. They said that they have something that has been lying around for 3 years and should be lying around even longer. No idea when it will be bottled and whether it will then come to Europe. I visited the distillery's office/warehouse/bar directly in Oaxaca, Mexico. The distillery itself is in the mountains, unfortunately they don't want visitors there. I bought a bottle of Anejo RX15229 for the equivalent of about CHF 33.

Nose: very much freshly broken agave, light pear, a little sweet (pulp?) Mouth: again the cactus is very much in the foreground, bamboo fruit pulp, coconut, pear, in the finish white grape with syrup and slightly salty, alcohol is well integrated
