Depaz Private Cask (Premium Craft Spirits Selection) 2010
One member calls it authentic and fiery, and that's the read most owners land on. Big oak drives this cask-strength Depaz — pepper, vanilla, licorice and leather up front, with sugarcane freshness and a menthol lift keeping it from turning heavy. Dried fruit, dark chocolate and a touch of caramel round the rustic edges. The finish runs long. At 58% the heat isn't fully tucked in, and the wood dominates.

Without direct comparison very high level! I must soon compare with the other private casks.

Very dry (much more than the 2010 vintage). A certain finesse, but not much happens on the palate.

Basically a nice Depaz bottling. Beautiful aromas that you can smell and then also taste. The only thing I find a bit disturbing here is that the alcohol is not optimally integrated, but this is forgivable.
Review by TheRhumhoe
An authentic and fiery Depaz. The nose has a wide aromatic palette, first we find the spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, vanilla), sugarcane and its freshness notes (on menthol), then wood, tobacco and herbal notes. The fruits come gradually, with dried fruits and citrus in the forefront, then tropical fruits and peach. A nice very versatile agricole rum. The attack on the palate is very frank and direct, the grassy and earthy notes taking the lead in the first moments. The palate heats up with spices and wood, both very marked (pepper, vanilla, licorice, leather). Dark chocolate, dried fruits and caramel come to soothe a rustic profile, whose alcohol could be a bit better integrated. The finish is very long. The vegetal, slightly bitter notes dominate, followed by leather, wood, spices, dried fruits, cocoa and tannins. We find an almost astringent side at the end of the mouth. A pure traditional agricole rum that will delight fans of the distillery.

Typical agricole aromas of sugarcane, hazelnut, nougat, pepper and vanilla find a fresh counterpart in tropical fruits, giving the profile complexity. On the palate comes the sharp alcohol note not uncommon for Depaz, which unfortunately somewhat negatively affects the finish. Demanding, but with rewarding complexity.

Beautiful product with a nice nose but a rather short length.

Profile too woody for my taste.

A particular rum, this Depaz. The nose is very woody but surprisingly sweet and fruity. Lots of vanilla. A soft fruit like plum, maybe morello cherry. On the palate, too much wood, too astringent. It's a shame because the leather blends with a rather pleasant ice cream-like fruit sensation. Long finish as well. Too much wood for me. Shame. Thanks to Rodolphe for the sample.

Red fruits and wood on the nose. The palate is really explosive with very intense woody notes of leather, peat and cork. It all remains very dry.Tannic, earthy and slightly bitter on the finish that remains long and persistent, but I like it less than on the palate, could have reached 93.Empty glass smells of esters and wood

Very pleasant Depaz, very natural, the French oak brought its dose of spice and a hint of vanillin. My preference is still for the previous vintages in the SC series (the 2000 in the lead) because for roughly the same price there was more concentration and complexity.

Very good with its notes of harlequin candy, just a bit too overpowering, to nitpick, because it’s really excellent!

Nice orange nose, with its flowers Almost sugary Mouth slightly monothematic I will have to taste it again

An excellent Depaz. The 58 degrees suit it very well. You find fruits and spices at the beginning, then tobacco, a nice woodiness and a mentholated side that gives a nice freshness to the whole! Very nice tasting! I like it a lot.

Full of taste, integrated alcohol but .. come on, I hate that wine like taste!
