Longueteau Constellation 2022 (Saint-Malo)

"Une explosion de canne soyeuse" is how one member puts it, and that's the through-line here: fresh-cut sugarcane, lemon and lemongrass, with a green, peppery edge running underneath. At 57,5% the alcohol barely registers — several tasters swear it drinks softer than the proof, so it goes down easy neat or in a Ti-Punch. Most call it one of the best white agricoles they've had.

This rum, Longueteau Constellation Blanc 2022 from the Esperance Distillery, is a limited edition (17400 bottles) for the 2022 Route du Rhum. It’s a blend of rum from two different plots. Red Cane from plot No 1 (dry and maritime climate) and Blue Cane from plot No 7 (humid climate). The blend rested for 8 months before bottled. The nose is complex, fruity, fresh, floral, creamy and round almost velvety with scents of sugarcane, pepper, grass, citrus and lemon. At the palate it’s still complex, round, silky, floral, sweet and a little bitter with flavors of mineral, lime, pepper, grass, citrus and sugarcane. The finish is long, very round, sweet and vegetal with flavors of pepper, grass, citrus and lime.

For agricole lovers, one of the best I ever tasted. Great perfume of cane and a powerful taste of grass/lemongrass/cane. We don't feel the high alcoholic degree, it slides easily.

This is a cuvée distilled at Longueteau in 2022 using red cane from their Parcelle n°1 and blue cane from Parcelle n°7. This cuvée honors the legendary Route du Rhum (a yacht race held every 4 years between Saint-Malo, in Brittany, and Point-à-pitre, in Guadeloupe). And for this, they've brought out a beautiful bluish bottle (although I confess that the large neckline makes serving it a little complicated). The reduction was particularly slow (8 months) and fractioned to obtain this juice bottled at 57.5%. Limited edition of some 17,400 bottles (so it's easy to find). The nose is of fresh sugar cane, with honeyed and slightly peppery notes. A straightforward nose that attracts interest. The attack on the palate is well-balanced (you'd think it was even more reduced than 57.5%), with a very vegetal mouthfeel, and sugarcane in the spotlight! The peppery, fruity citrus note is very pleasant indeed. The length is quite persistent, and even surprising on the peppery side! It's an enjoyable tasting experience, accompanied by perfect sweetness. The glass empties too quickly, and even more so with Ti-Punch! A masterful rum. As is often the case, Longueteau's whites never disappoint! And no hesitation, I doubled it ...

An exceptional white agricultural rum. The nose offers a wide range of aromas, from the fruitiness of exotic fruits (pineapple) and citrus (lemon) to floral and vegetal notes of fermented sugarcane, followed by shimmering spices. Notes of lactic fermentation also emerge after aeration. A balanced, generous rum. Exquisitely round on the palate. Sugar cane, citrus, exotic fruit, grass, spices and notes of fermentation offer a very supple, easy-drinking, well-constructed juice. The alcohol is very well integrated. Aeration makes it even easier to drink. The finish, of decent length, remains in the same tonality as the palate, i.e. tart citrus, floral and vegetal notes of sugarcane, a hint of spice and tropical fruit. The finish is drier and more agricultural, but still delicious. An excellent white rum, superb neat or as a Ti Punch, at an unbeatable value for money.

This is a white rum that I place in the top of the top. It's got everything to please, and the scent alone attracts you with its raspberry, lime and sugar cane aromas. It's as gourmand as you could wish for! The palate doesn't disappoint either, with a gourmet agricultural taste and a lemon-pepper pep, plus beautiful packaging.
