The amber colored Papillon Brun is distilled at the Esperance distillery in their creole column whereafter it’s aged in new American oak barrels and former bourbon casks for 6 months before bottled. Overall a rum with a pleasant sweetness and a beautiful roundness despite the short aging. Actually with a remarkable balance.

Tasted in 3 sessions with a 5cl sample. I was quite impressed by the white and was curious to see its evolution after a short aging. Overall, it remains rather linear. It's not unpleasant, but not transcendent either. I think this sweet rum would require longer aging with a special cask that would bring some fun.

#7438 25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. Quick notes while tasting. Medium intense, spice, wood, roasted, nuts, caramel, sugarcane.

A little old sweetie, quite classic and a bit flat but with good length, very good value for money. Nose: lots of youthful ethers at first, which quickly fade and disappear after a few minutes of airing. Nuts, almonds, not much else. Palate: very soft, candied fruits and leather, needs to be swirled well to reveal the flavors, you have to "provoke" it a bit as it is easy to drink. The length is correct and stays on the tones of the palate with a bit of leather. Overall a well-presented little oldie, accessible and easy, unpretentious, ideal for daytime recreation or to gently discover the world of rum.

Rum with a rather mediocre balance, quite a pronounced bitterness and a rather weak aromatic expression. However, in this rum you find quite a lot of yellow, exotic fruits (Mango / Papaya / Passion), orange zest, a hint of young wood with lots of spices (Cinnamon / Ginger / Pepper / Vanilla), a caramelized sweetness highlighted by a vegetal touch (Cane / Hay) and a nice freshness. It's very light, short, and lacks length but for the price it's honest.
