Much too sweet for me! At the nose it’s round with aromas of vanilla, caramel and cocoa. At the palate and during the medium long finish it’s sweet and round with flavors of vanilla, caramel and chocolate.

Retasting this rum and it lost some points compared to the first run. When I first tried this rum I was surprised at what quality you get at this low price. A must try in my mind. The nose is sweet with spices and fruit topped with a hint of coffee and cognac. The palate is well balanced with wood/oak and sweetness from honey, caramel and burnt sugar. Add to that some caramel, chocolate and honey and it's a hit. The finish is medium long, creamy and sweet with a hint of coconut and orange.

Delicious Dominican Republic rum, but a bit too sweet. Absolute standard aromas that you know from many other Spanish rums. Unfortunately a bit thin, okay as a beginner rum, but this rum isn’t that cheap either. Conclusion: there are cheaper and better rums of this style.

Taste: Sweet flavors combine with vanilla, honey, caramel and cinnamon. The extra percentages have given Ron Esclavo XO a little more power to the taste.

This used to be one of my favorites when I was more into sweet rums. It still have some interesting notes, but the sweetness takes it down too much, so this is the highest I can give it. 2024: Four years since my above comment and I agree, but have to lower it even further from 7,0 to 6,5.

A good rum in the Spanish style. Pleasant on the nose with chocolate and fruit notes. On the palate caramel, vanilla and honey. The finish is unspectacular. But a clear purchase recommendation for sweet rum fans.

Original impressions from 2017 rum calendar. Nose: ** Taste: *** Overall: *** I have to give this rum some more credit compared to my first tasting back in 2018. This is a rum with a subtle and elegant nose that doesn’t reveal that much. Taste is nice and I find the sweetness almost like burnt sugar and some dried fruits and raisins. A nice sipper.

The Ron Esclavo XO 23 Años first hits the nose with woody tones, followed by the sweetness of molasses. Light chocolate notes and spices play along. On the palate, chocolate comes first, followed by citrus notes. It’s slightly sharp at the start. Overall, it feels light and offers an interesting play of aromas. It’s well balanced.

I had certain expectations when I saw the label and I must admit it was fulfilled. Soft rum in Spanish style, the alcohol is noticeable as a finely integrated detail. The mouthfeel is sublime. The rum delivered exactly what I expected beforehand, which doesn't happen often. I think this one will appeal to many people since it's an example of how rum can also be made very accessible to a broader audience.

On the nose classic caramel, vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and raisin. In the bottle a nice mahogany brown and a slightly oily look. On the tongue the same notes as before on the nose. The finish is warming but watery with some oak and a slight bitterness.

The rum is suitable for beginners. Sugar was added here 48g/L. The rum is more for people who like sweet rum😋. Nose and taste differ quite a bit here... too bad 😒. Less sugar would have done the rum good.
