#5075 01.02.2025 Tasting at the "Nordlichter Treffen 2025". Nose Wood, light roasted, caramel, dried fruit, butterscotch, light herbal, faint chocolate. Palate Oily, balanced, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, spice, light chocolate, faint coffee, light molasses. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, spice, light dry, light coffee, faint earthy.

In 2018, Blackadder bottled two exciting Panama rums. The color as dark as colored rums from Guyana or Trinidad. The alcohol content is as low as old Armagnac. After the euphoric review of Boletus, I had to try these rums - and I wasn't disappointed, even if I didn't get the really big ones. There is hardly any difference between the 15 and 20-year-old rums on the nose. Raisins, coffee, chocolate and brown caramel and roasted hazelnuts dominate. The fruit of the 15-year-old is missing from the 20-year-old, which instead has its own woody, polished note. The spices of cloves, allspice and licorice can be found in both rums. In the mouth, the 20-year-old is noticeably more intense, but lacks the fruitiness of the younger one - I still find a few dried currants. The intensity makes it exert roasted burnt nuts and brings more bitterness. The heavy woodiness and polish notes are very nice. Reminds me a bit of a SWR overall. Not as intense, but there is a certain similarity. The finish is longer but also more bitter than the 15-year-old with burnt caramel. A very intense Panama rum. A week ago I thought the 15-year-old was better. Today I can't make up my mind. I'm already looking forward to the rest of my bottle.

blackadder panama 1998 & blackadder panama 2003 in direct comparison. Both are very similar in profile. Delicious sweet Spanish-style rums that are surprisingly smoky. The Panama from 1998 is a little smokier and leaves cold ashes on the finish. The younger representative is more pleasing on the palate, more oily and very drinkable with a little less smoke and no ash. Blindly, I would have guessed that this was a rum with added sugar. Panama 1998: 83 pts. Panama 2003: 85 pts.

I personally like it better than the 15 year old - here the palate is roastier, with a fine bitterness and wood polish. It simply fits better than the fruitiness of the 15yo. Similar level but I clearly prefer this one.

8,7:On the nose, charred wood notes with roasted nuts, coffee, butterscotch, dried fruits like raisins, some orange peel, polish, herbaceous molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried apricots join, burnt sugar, chocolate, allspice and some tobacco, leather. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is oily, balanced with charred wood notes like dark chocolate, coffee, butterscotch, caramelized burnt sugar, roasted nuts, leather, smoky, meaty, perhaps umami is there, certainly some allspice, thick molasses, earthy with cigar, dark with licorice, as the fruits are dried with raisins, apricots, some citrus fruits pop up. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with pear, dried fruits pairing roasted, burnt wood notes and earthy molasses, musty, dark with licorice.

Northern Lights Meeting 2025: The color is already blatant .... even if it was helped there, very respectable. Raisins and caramel on the nose. In the mouth a fine sweetness overall mild but you also notice the wood, which dominates alongside the raisins. Quaffable without question, but I like the 15 a little better.

Nice nose with caramel and raisins. On the palate lots of caramel, a bit roasted. Burnt caramel, some wood. Finish not particularly long, but still a nice one. For me it has a bit more depth than the 15y.

This Panama has clearly internalized the Spanish style, but in a quite pleasant noble way. It lingers quite well on the palate and tastes good. I find the nose a bit restrained, on the palate a nice dark caramel and wood note develops. That fits. It lacks a bit of depth and complexity to really stand out.

The aromas of a Panama rum in the Spanish style are easy to recognize, but the increased age wonderfully complements the profile. Nice barrel notes and lots of chocolate. Great intensity for 51%, oily and balanced mouthfeel. Dry and bitter finish.

This rum does the same thing right from the start, but it's so beautiful and hits my current taste perfectly that I don't want any surprises while drinking it. The alcohol strength is ideal and doesn't need any water added, I've never experienced a better mouthfeel. If I was condemned to drink only one spirit for the rest of my life, this would be my choice at the moment. Wonderful!

Honestly, I don't find the alcohol very well integrated, but the mouthfeel and aging are pretty good for a Panamanian! It's not spectacular, but it does what it can very well!
